I got some handmedown perfect pearls (the little shimmery powders) and I am hoping someone can give me a tip or trick. It seems like from the videos I have watched you need clear ink to use them correctly? Is there a way to do this without clear ink? I really liked the look of putting the pearl powder all over the front of a card and then lifting it off with a stamp, but in the Jen McGuire video I watched she did this with clear pigment ink and then had to use a spray to set it all. Is that necessary? Maybe these were given to me because they were too much work, lol!!

I just use clear versamark ink with mine, which is the same ink I use for heat embossing. I've never heat set them.

Ok, so I do need the clear ink? Bummer...I thought maybe I could get away without it, lol. Well, another thing to put on the M's list.

Yes you need the clear versamark (which lasts forever) for those types of techniques. If you don't want to buy anything you can mix some of the pearls with a little water to create pearly paint, but that gives you an entirely different look.

I love perfect pearls. I have a small spray bottle with water and a bit of the perfect pearls. Shake it up well before each use. The water will help it stick to the card and when the water dries it will still stick.
I just mist it on a card, or remove the sprayer and use the tube to flick droplets of it.

I don’t think it has to be clear ink, but if you use one that has color, it will affect the end results.

I've mixed them with acrylic mediums and been very happy with the results

I wanted to try some with distress oxide ink blended background. I saw JM make cards where she spritzed the ink blended panels with Perfect Pearl water to activate the oxide ink and the effect was subtle but really pretty. I feel like I've seen her add them to other liquid things too, but I can't think of specifics. You might want to search her blog and see how else she uses them.

I use it on tape (for stripes) or over anything sticky. I've never explored other options and I only have a few small pots that came together in a pack many, many years ago.

You can diecut cs with wider tape on top, cover sheet still attached, then remove the cover sheet and dust on the Perfect Pearls powders, too.

I haven't watched this video but I thought of you when I saw Simon was playing with Perfect Pearls Thanks for the video! In lieu of the "Perfect Medium", do you all think clear Versamark would work?

Yes, the clear Versamark should work. I used to use them interchangeably, until the pad for my Perfect Medium started disintegrating (huge mess).

I haven't watched this video but I thought of you when I saw Simon was playing with Perfect Pearls OMG, this proves that 'everything old is new again' LOL!! What's next? Magic Mesh?!? (I had a ton of this stuff that was probably at least 20 years old, and I finally got rid of it all a few years ago, because I never used it, and couldn't remember what you could do with it. I refuse to buy it again, lol!! Simon needs to start making videos with all the OTHER supplies I still have from back then!
