DS moved out and took his cat. This cat was dumped at 6 weeks old 2 years ago and has been an outdoor farm cat until now. She never cared about toys since she had mice and rats and birds to catch and play with. She seems to be adjusting to apartment life nicely but she's still not too interested in the toys ds got for her. I would like to get her some for Christmas. Any toy suggestions that your cats love? She's left alone for about 10 hours a day while ds works. Here she is from 2 years ago http://instagram.com/p/BX7am1Vloi7

She’s pretty!!
I think it depends on the cat. One of mine loves craft pom-poms, or felt mice filled with beans/rice so they are heavy and she throws them in the air and slams them down on the ground.

Used to look after a neighbour’s cat that was too skittish to come out when I was in the house alone. I would suggest a cat tree. Maybe one with a scratch post attached. I used to put a cat toy or two on every level of the tree. I also put a ball on the floor in the hallway. When I went in the next day I usually had to go looking for the ball and the toys would be off the tree.

My son's cat prefers the wand types of toys that dangle but only if the cat's preferred human (my dil) is playing. She (the cat) won't play with me at all and only a little bit with my son. eta: my dil would consider it very strange to play wand toys with me :0 Since they were going to be staying with me for several months I bought the cat a kitty condo like this one www.chewy.com/armarkat-premium-78-in-cat-tree/dp/55141 We put in it the big front window so the cat could enjoy watching things outside. Not sure what your budget it.

Pipe cleaners wrapped around my finger like a spring and peacock feathers.

My cat likes the red dot laser light and flashlight, both of which need me to swirl them around for light chasing.
She also likes to look out the sliding door, at a birds that land on the railing or balcony.
Mostly my cat sleeps the day away.

Mine mostly sleep during the day. At night they go nuts for little stuffed mice and the feather dangling things they’ve ripped off the wand toys.

Paper bags, pieces of brown craft wrapping paper that has been a little messed up, boxes and pipe cleaners. She has a boatload of other toys but these are her favorites. At 2 years old, the cat is still in kitten stage and everything will be a toy - she will just need time to feel secure and comfortable to play. Being alone for so long each day, be sure there is a window she can sleep in and watch outside while sun bathing.

Da Bird, rattle mice, craft puffs marinated in catnip, springs, realistic squishy mice, anything by Yeoww! catnip, boxes, and Q-tips. She may also be bored being alone so much. Could she get a kitty roommate?

We love these too! Da Bird is fun, but you have to be there to play with her. For solo play, maybe a crinkley tunnel to play in, catnip toys, one of mine is crazy about this wool snake www.amazon.com/RC-Pet-Toys-Zealand-Interactive/dp/B07481CRTX A cat tree is a good idea, she can get exercise climbing around, and being able to look out the window is a must.

Milk jug rings. Coiled up pipe cleaners. Small, flat stuffies.

Hair elastics and plastic bags lol. One time we moved the pedestal dining table and found about 20 hair elastics She would bat them around until they got under the pedestal and she couldn’t reach them any longer.
For “real” toys...the wands (I’ve seen them where you can attach/hang to the wall so a human is not required 😉
Laser light toys
Springs/coils

I have two cats, and neither of them are big players. They are let out during the day though, so they are mostly in sleep-mode inside. But in the winter they prefer to stay inside and they play with toys a littlw bit more.
The banana.
You need to get the banana. The cats go psychotic for it. In a good way.
I believe it's a brand called WOWWW or something similar. The banana has catnip in it, but it must be a special kind of catnip because it's the only catnip toy they care about.
I bought a three-pack, received it in the mail in a plastic envelope, and the cats started ripping apart the plastic before I could even open it! This is cat-crack!
Also, always have a couple of places for her to scratch, and give har access to a window with a view if you have it. Cats can be pretty entertained just watching for potential dangers (birds, people, mice, flies....)

Ours loved the Cat Dancer toy. We went through a bunch of these over time. Extremely simple and cheap.

thanks everyone. He does have a cat tree and he put it near a window but she doesn't seem interested in looking out the window so far. His apartment is slightly below ground so the windows are about at ground level. We tried giving her catnip toys in the past but she didn't seem affected by them. Has anyone tried silvervine toys with cats that don't bother with catnip? He said every once in a while she goes nuts with a burst of energy and runs all over the place.
I don't think another cat is an option. He has to pay a monthly fee per cat. Also, she has never gotten along with our other cats (other than when she was tiny and one of our cats kind of mothered her) so we're thinking she might be better as an only cat.

These things are better than catnip around here. And the best part is that they flatten if you step on them.

Due to this thread I ordered the banana - holy crap, both my boys love that thing. I just ordered more - a trio with another banana, a rainbow, and a fish.

There are no other cats. For the first 2 years she was around other cats and avoided them like the plague.
I got a couple of bigger toys on sale at chewy, plus a couple of the silvervine toys to try and the banana mentioned above. Hopefully there will be something she likes. 😂
