Thinking about updating my outdated PSE license when I get a new laptop, but am curious if there are similar products out there that I should be looking at instead?

I was thinking Lightroom also. I'm a PSE girl through and through so I don't have a lot of experience with Lightroom other than their free app (which I LOVE!).

I also need a photo editing program. I do not want to buy an annual license or pay a monthly fee. I just want to edit my photos and make collages and stuff.
So does Adobe have a program like that? What about Corel? I use Picasa now and it has very limited features and is no longer supported but it lets me crop and make collages.
I want to tell my husband to get it for me for Christmas.

What is this SALT you speak of? It's a app that I use for any kind of hybrid scrapbooking I do. It's super easy to load digital elements into and use to add them to your photos. You can also make PL cards with it. I'm an Android user so I'm not sure if it's compatible with IOS.

Affinity Photo gets good reviews and will open .psd files. There are versions for windows, mac and ipad. affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/

Photo Studio by ARCsoft might be an option. I used to use them to stitch 12x12 layouts to post them.

@northrigg, not sure what the normal price is, but Amazon has Photoshop Elements as a deal of the day for $56! Just thought I'd share in case it helps you.

PSE fits the bills but be warned it has a large learning curve and may be too much for what you need. What about an app for your phone or iPad? I use Google photos for most cropping and the PL app for collages to print.

As luck would have it, I just came across an article that lists seven free alternatives to Photoshop and wanted to share in case it's helpful. Article

I too have struggled since the demise of Picasa and though I "manage", my workflow isn't anything like as straightforward as it used to be! Having said that, I've always used PSE for editing photos and creating artwork on my PC, so that's continued "as usual". But I've never got on with PSE organisation and it was that (and some of those simple collage creation tools and basic edits) that I missed from Picasa. I gave Lightroom a go but it hung my computer frequently and just couldn't cope with the hundreds of thousands of picture files I have here and there - maybe if it had built up the database gradually, it'd have been ok, but it just seemed to choke on getting its little system around my ginormous collection. So, I followed a recommendation for Capture One and now use that to catalogue my photos and digital scrapbooking supplies (in two separate collections) There's a free 30 day trial here I won't say it's perfect, but it has allowed me to sort and tag my photos in a way I can manage! Which leaves me with the basic editing. On my Android phone/tablet I love Snapseed - free and really efficient. When I'm travelling I can edit and adjust filesize, crop and do basic processes really quickly and easily for my blog and can't recommend it highly enough - I think it's a google product too, so maybe it comes from similar roots to Picasa? I'd love something as quick and easy on my PC desktop, just for those times when I want to do a quick crop without opening up PSE and so on - which takes time. I'm no professional, but have been working with digital photographs and stuff for a long time. Yes, I'm set in my ways and adopting new workflows tests my patience!! nicolep I also looked for SALT but only found a Christian dating agency! More details please?

I use PaintShop Pro. I use it for collages, editing, etc.... I have been using it for years. ScrapbookCampus has some classes- scrapbookcampus.com/master-classes/ There is a lot of info over at PixelScrapper too. Krita is the replacement for Gimp. I have used Krita with Gimp. Both are freeware. Affinity seems super popular, especially with the UK digi artists. It is the replacement for Serif Craft Artist2 For scrapbooking look at MyMemories. The new version has just added advanced features. Right now I am using PaintShop Pro, Serif Craft Artist2 (discontinued) and Printmaster. I also use PhotoFiltre Studio (paid version). Broderbund Printmaster is the one that creates MyMemories software. It is practically the exact same program.
