Does anyone use the peloton workout app? Not the bike itself with screen but just the stand alone app? It looks like you can choose from a variety of workouts- treadmill and outdoors running, spin/bike (with your own bike), yoga, strength training, and boot camp. I read reviews online and people seem to think it’s really great but I’d love some pea reviews if there are any! You can also chime in if you have the bike but I’ll be jealous. 😂 I currently attend yoga classes in studio and do walking/running on my own. I thought the app would be nice to spice up my running on the treadmill and for strength training which I can’t seem to get motivated to do on my own right now. There’s currently a trial offer for 19.95 which is the monthly rate but you get three months.

My daughter has been using the treadmill workouts to start running, and she loves it. She keeps trying to get me to buy it, but I'm happy listening to podcasts while I'm on the treadmill.

I know there are lots of happy app users. I have the bike, but I also use the app to do all the other stuff. I am totally addicted. I love it! I would also get the tread if I had the money and space. I got my bike at the end of January I hit 273 rides/523 total workouts as of right now. 5A3BVA will get you $100 off if you decide to buy the bike or tread! It was by far the best self-care purchase I have ever made. I have 4 kids (8, 6, 3, 1) and being able to work out without having to find childcare or having to leave the house is amazing! My favorite instructors are Christine, Jenn, Denis, and Matt.

I could be tempted by the bike but I’m not sure yet if I like spinning enough to justify it. I think I will pull the trigger on the app for strength and running and one of my DDs has spin bikes in her apartment complex I could use to try spin classes and see what I think. Thanks for the instructor tips!

Okay so longer response. I had never done a spin class before.
I did a half Ironman (1.2 mil swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 run) within a year and a half of having babies 1-3. I trained enough to get through them. With #1 and #3 I got pregnant with the next within a month or so. And with pregnancies #3 and #4 I wasn't allowed to run while pregnant due to bladder prolapse after #2. I swam growing up, so that was always the "easy" part. As long as I get back in the water a decent amount before the race it comes back without too much effort. My husband bought me my first pair of running shoes for my 21st birthday. I have never "enjoyed" running but have done it because it was good for me and because I could do it with my mom or my husband. I have never been fast. Biking was something I did to get through the race. It was always the last thing I came back to after being pregnant and the first thing I stopped doing after a race.
Baby #4 arrived in March 2018. I developed a stress fracture in my foot, so I had a good excuse to not have to be running. And I don't have reliable childcare, so biking was out. I have really struggled after baby #4. Postpartum depression, weight is the highest I have ever been, seriously lacking motivation. My husband bought me the peloton as a belated birthday present in January 2019. I LOVE it. I have done 269 (will be 270 after I ride tonight) since I got it. With the app I have also done 122 stretching workouts, 46 meditation, 35 walking, 19 strength, 18 running, 6 yoga, and 1 bootcamp workout. I was supposed to be doing my 4th and final half Ironman next weekend but developed another stress fracture (in the other foot), so until that is healed I am biking. The Power Zone pack is incredible, they run 8-week challenges where you commit to 3, 4, or 5 rides a week. They tell you what rides to do and you are part of a facebook support group. I am in my second 8-week challenge and the progress I saw in the first 8-week challenge totally sold me on it.
I'm always happy to talk peloton! I am one of the crazy converts! Also they have a very strong social media component. There are "tribes" for everything you can imagine. I am in the XXl, Shorties, Smile every mile, and the triathlon one. The support fellow members give is amazing. In one of the mom groups that I am on a mom came on yesterday to share that she had woken up that morning to discover her husband of 2 years had passed away in his sleep. She found herself suddenly a single mom of a 1 year old. A huge group of moms got together and all rode with her this morning to a specific ride to support her and high five (virtually) her through it. The facebook groups are like this board in many ways and are amazing!

Thank you, BeagleMom for the added info! Half an Ironman?! Damn, girl, you’re hardcore. 😂 Spinning would probably be good for me because I do have some feet issues and too much running or walking can Aggravate that. I so like the social media support component. I wonder if just the app allows for that or if you need the bike?

I’ve been thinking about getting the app as well but haven’t decided. I’m interested to know if the app would let you join the Facebook groups?
I have a treadmill and elliptical. Would any of the spinning classes be able to be used on an elliptical? That might be a stupid question but I don’t know what they tell you during the workout, or if it is just nice to have someone give you encouragement.

After poking around a bit on Reddit it appears like you could join a FB group with the app- I saw links to join groups. There are probably even app specific groups to join. I haven’t taken a peloton spin class but I’ve taken in person spin classes- they tell you when to increase/decrease resistance on the bike, when to stand and pedal and when to sit, etc. they give encouragement and push you at certain points. I don’t think it would translate to elliptical because it not the same platform/movements. The treadmill workouts they offer might be closer/more adaptable for that because the walking/running motion is more similar. I’m pretty sure I will sign up for the three month trial 1/1. If you do it let me know and maybe we can be friends or something on the app.

I really want the bike as I used to spin a lot but since I need a hip replacement and my hip flexor is shredded, it's too painful to do the classes:(

I have a Peloton bike and LOVE it! I've had it for just about a year and am at 314 rides, I did my 300th live in the studio in NYC. If you do just the workout app, they announced today the price dropped from $19.99/month to $12.49/month. I'd say it is definitely worth it, I've used the app to do a few walks and some treadmill workouts on non-Peloton treadmills, worked fabulously! I would highly recommend the bike, but if that doesn't work, the app would be the next best thing! Enjoy!!!

That’s awesome about the price - I will definately try the app for that.

I love it. I have zero excuses for not exercising now. ZERO. That works for me. And music really, really motivates me to move on the bike and treadmill. So I crank it super loud and sing at the top of my lungs while I'm pedaling or walking. Can't do that at the gym...

Well, my treadmill took it's last breath before I could even start my walking workout. But, I decided to listen to a spinning workout while using the elliptical. I haven't used the elliptical much because I feel like I am going to die when I am on it, but with the help of Robyn I made it 30 min! I just kept it at the same speed and resistance the whole time but listening to her was motivating, even if I couldn't follow the prompts exactly.

Can you download workouts or do they have to be streamed ? Our wifi is really bad but I could go somewhere to download them if that is an option.

When I was looking through classes I saw marathon prep ones in the running section so my guess is there would be something similar for the biking and running portions of the triathlon.

I am considering the treadmill but the price is scaring me off. I'm 57 and 220 lbs and I’m a total newbie. DESPERATE to lose some weight and get in better shape. I’m really intrigued by the streamed classes that Peloton offers. Should I just buy a cheap treadmill and a digital membership or jump in with the whole tread/membership package? Or am I biting off more than I can chew? I would hate to spend a lot of money and then be in over my head and unable to use it.
Any advice?

I am so easily influenced.... I downloaded the app for the free 30 day trial. You are able to preload the classes. I preloaded a 20 minute treadmill workout and I liked it so much that I did another one! It stopped streaming a couple of times because of our bad WiFi. I will preload some more classes including yoga and report back! I used to love cycling classes but I don’t have a spin bike. If I keep up with the treadmill workouts beyond the 30 day trial I might consider getting a bike, but not a Peloton. (My treadmill is a Nordictrack and I am a regular user - normally watch Netflix while running but I did enjoy the Peloton classes that I did today.)

Someone who has a bike would definitely have more info, but I think if you had a different type of bike you wouldn't get quite the same type of interactive experience. But you would obviously still get the benefit of the workout. Right now my plan is to evaluate whether or not to get another treadmill or a bike if I am consistent with the elliptical and other workouts.

My daughter runs marathons and is training for an ironman. She regularly does spin classes at Peloton and SoulCycle and said spinning is a wonderful way to cross train and stay in shape for the marathons.

Right now my plan is to evaluate whether or not to get another treadmill or a bike if I am consistent with the elliptical and other workouts. Personally, I would get the actual Peloton bike, not use another brand and the app, but that's me. We were evacuated for a week about a month ago and the hotel had a spin bike that I was appreciative of so I could continue to do my Peloton workouts. Unfortunately, doing the app workouts doesn't give you all of the metrics that are on the Peloton bike, I really feel they are worth it. Had I never used a Peloton, I suppose I wouldn't know any difference, but having used one for about a year made it difficult to use the other one. In regards to the tread workouts, I've done a couple on other treadmills with the app and it worked great. PeachStatePea, I see no reason at all you wouldn't be able to use the Peloton tread. My daughter has used it and said it is super smooth and is more like running on a track than regular treadmills. When I started the bike, I wasn't much into working out, but now look forward to riding every morning at 6:30am. I love the streamed classes and the motivation from the instructors. There is also a huge supportive Peloton community (on FB) with many smaller groups geared toward so many different interests. If you have any other questions, let me know, I'm happy to answer what I can!

I’ve done a couple strength training workouts, a boot camp, and a power walk (treadmill). I will also continue after my trial. Dh bought me a bike (not peloton) for Christmas so I’ll be able to do that too. 😂. I take yoga classes in studio but plan to check some of those out as well.

I just signed up for the app and LOVE IT! The flexibility of workout types and length of sessions is great. How’s everyone else doing with their trials/subscriptions?
