The HOAs and MUDs in my area have “no trespassing” signs up for their parks, playgrounds and pools. There are no gates/fences except pools and people’s backyards. Our neighborhood does not have a playground, I have to drive children to a public one. I would think if you were not welcome, they would have a sign up. No sign, go for it! IMO Sharon

Well...what do you know...it IS listed on the city’s parks page. The pool must be adjacent, because it is absolutely the neighborhood HOA pool. I assume the basketball court and tennis courts are, too. The trails connect to our larger trail system, so i guess it makes sense. But I suspect it’s like @pinkshirlee said—the city must have made some kind of deal. I don’t think there’s anywhere to park except the pool or street—but I will investigate. Now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense. There is a fire station right next to the trails. As I mentioned in my post, there is a walking/hiking trail in a neighborhood that is owned by the city, but right adjacent to it is a private park. People who don’t live in the area park on the streets with no problems when they use the trails. You could probably just park on the streets because I am assuming the streets are not private unless there is a sign.

Around here the entrances to developments from main roads are definitely and obviously HOAs -- large signs as well as smaller signs saying, "Deed Restricted Community." If you take internal roads that connect from one HOA to another, most do have a small sign saying which you are entering. So there is no way you wouldn't know which HOA you are in if you are paying attention.
The pool and playgrounds also have small signs up that say something like, "Reserved for use of dues-paying members of XYZ Community."
We also have a LOT of problems with teenagers coming into the development and causing problems. They try and jump the HIGH fence around the pool in the middle of the night. They often do damage to the pool and equipment. They have also done a lot of damage to the wooden fence that encircles the pool area that is designed to give privacy to those whose properties border it. Apparently it is a cool game to try and knock the fence down. (As always, I am deeply impressed by our local police force's inability to do anything even with hours of video surveillance over the course of more than 2 years.)
Because of that and some car theft rings that plague the area (and again, no results from police even with tons of video footage), our HOA is wrestling with becoming a gated community. The problem with that is your streets then become private and residents have to pay for all upkeep of streets and lighting with no decrease in property taxes.

There were 2 other cars parked at the pool this morning—both probably walking the trails as well. It is a very large subdivision, and I would imagine many residents drive to use the playground/trails/pool. The trails connect the pool to the playground, basketball court, tennis courts, etc. I am sure they are maintained by the HOA and not the city or county. My gut tells me I shouldn’t use them—after all, I do not contribute $ to their upkeep (I only use the trails). And I get the liability thing. They are just so close. And I feel safe there, Oh well. No I don't think there is any issue.. Maybe just park somewhere along the street (as long as you don't have to have a permit).. we have trails all over our neighborhood and tons of people use it. I wouldn't know if it was an owner or not, nor would I care as long as the person wasn't causing damage. The HOA maintains those areas and parks. But yeah no one ever says anything to anyone as long as they were being good about it.

Welp... not once have I seen a playground and thought that DS and I shouldn't go there. We are fortunate that there are a ton of playgrounds around us, funded by the city. But it isn't unusual for us to be driving through a neighborhood, see a park, and stop. We don't have many HOA's around us though, living in the middle of corn fields. There is one gated community that has a beach, a huge park, etc, but as it is gated, we haven't tried to go.

We have tennis courts in our subdivision and only we can use them. Our gym and pool are the same. I take guests to our gym and pool sometimes because no one really uses them.
