I just finished watching it. I don't think CTE was to blame for his actions. I think he was a sociopath. I did think there was something off with his high school quarterback and his dad. I can't put my finger on it but there was something off with them. Oh, yea!! They were both SUPER weird!

Was he possibly just a bi/curious experimental teen?

I’m just starting the third episode, and I 100 percent agree with you about the opening music. It is awful.

Was he possibly just a bi/curious experimental teen? One of his openly gay attorneys said he discussed AH's sexuality with him and believed that AH was clearly gay. I suspect that not many are willing to step forward because there are probably lots of people who wouldn't take kindly to exposing such a truth.

I DETEST the high school quarterback and his dad. They clearly think this documentary is allllll about them.
I haven't started the third episode yet, but I was reading up more about AH, because I think the documentary, while interesting, is all over the place, and I don't care for several of the people being interviewed.
I read that there have always been whispers about AH's sexuality and it was pretty well known at Florida. I also read that Hernandez often went on homophobic rants in his jailhouse calls - we've heard a few - but that there is also a call where he states that he's attracted to men and hates himself for it. Not sure if that call will be in the third episode? Supposedly, he also admitted it to his mother, brother, and one of his attorneys.

I also did not like the non linear formula, and I felt like they did not add much to story that I didn’t already know. Well, I didn’t know about his cousin and that relationship. I was surprised they kind of glosses over the friend that he shot in the face and that whole drama I also think it is very telling that everyone had such positive things to say about him in his early life—especially his high school friends. I thought it was really interesting that they all said he was not at all a bully and was a happy guy. I think a true sociopath would at least have some of those traits as a younger person...but, I am no psychologist. I do think the premature death of his father and the betrayal by his mom were the beginning of his demise. I am sure the alleged sexual abuse also had an effect. I do not think the CTE was the main factor at all. So sad and senseless. I feel especially bad for his victims whom were unarmed, and in vulnerable positions. What a coward to attack like that. Erin Sociopaths supposedly have one thing in common. Mothers who never showed them any empathy growing up. His mother was pretty checked out. He was conflicted about his sexuality because he thought that being abused as a child is what turned him gay. I think he would have committed suicide eventually anyway with all the demons in his head while having a deteriorating brain.

If I am in any type of serious situation I would call Joe Baez.
He would have gotten off if he would have hired him in the beginning. The documentary was a bit weird in parts. Like the homosexuality... maybe, but not how they portrayed it.

I think there is a good chance he still really loved his Fiancee. I would guess he was more bisexual than gay. I felt a lot of compassion for him actually. I think CTE could have had an amplified effect on his actions. Doesn't mean he shouldn't be responsible just that it isn't as cut and dry as I had thought before watching the documentary.

This series was so odd to me. What really struck me about him was that he didn't seem to have that egomania that many pro athletes are plagued with. He didn't seem to want or need the fame and recognition, it seemed like he just genuinely wanted to play football and make a lot of money. I think he had terrible anger issues due to many of the things that were brought up (childhood filled with abuse from his parents to the person who sexually abused him, anger and fear of his sexuality, losing his dad and his bizarre family triangle/circle/whatever...) which made him kill those first two men, and then paranoia took over and everything spiraled out of his control. And he was also really good at hiding it when he needed to (probably a sociopath).
I do think he was at LEAST bisexual, but that he did love his wife (probably in the same way he loved his cousin, which frankly I found their relationship to be a bit weird...) And that she probably truly does not believe he was sexually interested in men. But that same story really happens pretty often... I'm kindof surprised that anyone would make the 'he has a wife, his wife says he's not gay' argument.

I remember his days at Florida. At the risk of being an armchair psychiatrist, being raised by those parents and being a football star where "no" doesn't exist, he didn't really have much chance of being a stable individual. All the hardship in his life helps us understand, but doesn't excuse, how he turned out the way he did.
I like how the documentary just laid out the facts so we can draw conclusions. News shows used to be like that.

I didn't find the high school quarterback to be credible. He and his dad just seemed too anxious to insert themselves in the story.
While I was watching the documentary I kept thinking of Ted Bundy in The Stranger Beside Me. Bundy was a really nice, likable guy when he wasn't killing people. I tend to think that Hernandez was a sociopathic serial killer who happened to play football.

I tend to think that Hernandez was a sociopathic serial killer who happened to play football. That is who I was thinking of too! I read Stranger Beside Me and have watched several different shows about Bundy, and it was amazing how many people loved him and thought he was a really good guy. Even Ann Rule, who knew him before she knew what he did, had a difficult time reconciling the Ted Bundy she knew with the sociopath who brutally raped and murdered who knows how many women. I was so amazed as I read that book how she still did her best to be there for him, even got on a plane in the middle of the night when he called, even knowing who and what he was. That book stuck with me for a long time.
I remember when the Hernandez case was happening and just feeling so sad that he had the world by the ba!!s, yet threw it all away.

I had a really hard time following the Netflix’s version of the AH story. It was all over the place with no logical order. The ID Channel did a much better one on him. I think they are re-running it at the beginning of Feb.
He killed himself so that he could have his guilty conviction vacated. He got this idea in jail when he heard someone else had done this. With a vacated conviction, his heirs are most likely to sue the Pats, for any of his contracted 45million. Pats stated that they will be fighting this.
Edited to add: just read online that the prosecution was able to reinstate his guilty conviction in March of 2019.😊

I can't get beyond how athletes are paid so much money and throw it all away. I think football should go away, especially for all of the documented injuries. Not sure why people want to watch this sport. this is kind of my thoughts, too. How can parents let their kids play this game with all the info about the head injuries?
Other than that, I found the show fascinating and I learned a lot.
