I've always thought of them as "thread tangles" more than "thread balls" and really like when Missy Whiddon uses them. I've done a few but usually forget about them as an option for texture! This was the first scrapper that came to mind for me too. She uses them on almost every layout. They look great on her pages.

I’m not a fan of the messiness of thread, but I think it looks good made with twine. And as an aside, I know the linked video was sped up, but I cannot believe how quickly she put that page together!

It's just a lot of thread? I've used thread for messy texture, just not this amount. This looks like the kind of mess I find when one of my mother's kitties gets into her sewing supplies. A bit too much for me but I don't mind it. I like a messy element to break up a clean aesthetic.

They have been around for years. Here is a layout I did back in 2015 doing this in 3 different places. I love to do this!

And here is a card I did in 2014. You can see this more easily because I used black thread.

Such pretty and detailed projects, Patter ! Are these thread nests less seen in American scrapbooking perhaps? They've been big in Europe since I started scrapbooking which was seven-ish years ago.

Thank you, and yes, it's been big everywhere around the world except the U.S. from what I have seen. Most of the DTs I have been on have been filled with people from around the world. The trends seem to start other places first then years later make it to the U.S. Most of my favorite designers I follow are not in the U.S. Not saying there aren't great U.S. designers but what I am drawn to is usually created by someone elsewhere if that makes sense.

I have dark hair and all that does is remind me of all the hair I find in my shower drain, lol! (Sorry if that's gross That’s all I could think of too! I’ve used a little gold or silver thread behind a card sentiment, but that was a big tangled mess

I was really surprised this was considered a new craze on the board but your explanation makes sense. 😉

I hadn’t heard of this before.
You did a beautiful job on your projects, Patter. Thank you for sharing them. I think the way you used the threads was more appealing, even though this trend is not for me. In the video, the threads did remind me of drain tangles, but yours did not. I think you used it more effectively than the gal in the video.

I add thread balls to my layouts here and there. I like how they add a little texture and a little color in clusters. Patter - your pages are beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Well, I was at Dollarama today and picked up a variety pack of thread...if I ever get back to scrapping instead of just buying supplies I can see attempting a thread ball or two.
