I don’t usually by used cars bc I tend to keep them 7-8 years but I have a teenage driver so sharing a car with her has been cost effective since she is away at school. We were planning on buying me a car this spring or summer so dd can take her car to college next year. We are also trying to buy a beach house.
at any rate, I found a 2015 crv with 20,000 miles for $15k. Two things I’m not thrilled about is there’s no remote start (dh said he will add it) and it has light interior. My thinking is suck it up buttercup. Where else are you going to find a reliable car for that price? And yes it will be ten yrs old when I’m finished with it but it should be fine bc it will just be nearing 100k miles at that point.
So, does anyone have a 15 crv that would talk me out of this purchase? Anything I need to consider before we move forward?
update..we bought it. I really like it but dh dislikes the road noise. I figure I’ll get used to it or he’ll figure a way to fix it. I will also say that technology has come a long way in five years but I’ll be fine without my phone on the screen. We tinted the windows yesterday and still need the remote start but this has been such a mild winter that too may wait.

Not a crv but my SIL is driving my 2004 Pilot with over 200k miles on it. I up graded to a 2014 used Odyssey that I plan on keeping for at least 7 more years before I downsize to a crv size vehicle. Can't go wrong with a Honda in my book.
My neighbor's daughter is driving their 2004 Odyssey still.

I sold my 2012 pilot last year to buy my dd a 2019 civic that we now share. The pilot was too big for her but the civic is too small for me. I do like a Honda.

I have a 2014 CRV. I love it. Personally, I would not be thrilled with the light interior but I have a young son/his friends that get dirty coming from sports practice & hauling his bike.
It sounds like a great deal!

I bought a new CR-V this summer and absolutely love it. I don't know how different it is than the 2015.
I have a suggestion for you. When my kids were new drivers we bought a Camry from Hertz sales. It had 20k miles( the norm for rental cars) and was in great condition, except for some scratches around the trunk area from people loading luggage all the time. I was afraid to buy a used rental car, because I know how people treat their rentals. However, it's been a great car. We're very happy w/it. It was purchased in 2015 and we got it for a great price. The best part was that we did it all online. There's no haggling. The price listed online is the price you pay. Then you go to one of their rental counters and the car is delivered by an online agent. You have 3 days to drive the car. If you decide that it's a rent-a-lemon then you pay $49 per day for the 3 days and walk away. If you like the car and want to keep it then you fill out the paperwork and take the car home. It's super easy and the cars are good cars. They're typically a year old. Food for thought.

Not specifically answering the question you asked but I bought a 3 YO CRV in 2002, I don’t recall the mileage. I drove it until 2014. Best car. Super reliable. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. But I also always buy 1-3 YO cars. YMMV.

I have a 2006 CRV that I bought brand new when my now 13 yo was an infant in a car seat. I still love this car. We bought a used Odyssey last year for road trips, and kept the CRV for the now 16 yo to drive. Still has original engine and transmission going strong. We replaced the shocks a couple of years ago. I’m trying to recall if we’ve done anything else. Brake pads .. tires ... that’s all that comes to mind. I’ve been thinking it needs new head lamps as they’ve gotten a bit dim over the last 13 years.
When we are leaving past the family road trip stage (😭) we will sell the Odyssey and I will buy either another CRV or maybe a fun car like a used Porsche convertible with a manual transmission (I love to drop the hammer and go!!)
eta: My CRV has about 175K miles

I have a 2008 CR-V that I bought used in 2010. Although some aspects of the interior are starting to look worn (driver's right side armrest is ripping, probably due to dog standing on it) it's been a wonderful, reliable car. I have had three Hondas since the early 90s and they have all been reliable.

Just bought a 2019 CRV in November. LOVE it. I've driven a Pilot (actually, two Pilots) since 2002, when the first ones rolled off the line. Drove a civic before that. Kinda like the Hondas.
I think the CRV is my favorite so far. Love the remote start. Ours is the one that "drives itself" but that feature freaks me out, so I don't use it. We just had a bout of snow, which in the Puget Sound region means heavy snow that thaws and freezes and thaws and freezes and makes driving miserable. The CRV handled it like a champ. I'm not thrilled with the backup camera (not so great in the rainy dark) and there's a spot on the back of the back seat that has lifted. Also, the windshield wipers don't move fast enough for a heavy downpour. Other than that, love it!
And by the by, our 2002 Pilot is with my son up at college. It is basically on its last legs (wheels?) but it has over 350,000 miles on it, which is pretty remarkable. Last week, DH slid into a guardrail on White Pass while driving our 2012 Pilot. Even it that scary situation, the damage was minimal and he was okay.

Love the CRV. The x hole has totaled two and walked away both times without a scratch, currently has another CRV. Have also driven an Odyssey and I currently drive a 10 year old Pilot I love. Hondas are very reliable low upkeep vehicles. My son is driving a 2000 civic. I would love to find him a good used CRV to have away at University.
Could you get some sort of seat covers for the lighter interior? I prefer darker interior, but it’s not a total dealbreaker for me.

I am driving a 2014 CRV - we have had no problems at all with it. (We also have a 2006 Honda Accord that has been extremely reliable)

We have a 2015 CRV and a 2019 CRV (and had 1999, 2002, 2009). The 15 is lovely, if it has the touchscreen and climate control. It also has heated seats (if your model comes with it). Very reliable automobile. Never had to have service on it.

Now that we've agreed on a price we will drive it then buy it. I know it has heated seats but I don’t know about the touch screen. Again not thrilled about the light, fabric material or the hike in insurance bc now dd will be a designated driver but the price is right to get me to my end goal, the beach house. We were going to drive it tonight, but decided to do everything Saturday morning. Thank you so much for the encouragement! I’m skeered!

You can't go wrong with a Honda. I agree with this but I am also not sure I'll ever buy a car where there is not a local dealership. I have a 2009 Odyssey but the closest dealership is 45min-1hr away. We had to take it to the dealership when it was new for oil changes/maintenance or else it voided the warrenty. It was a real PITA and that would be the only reason I wouldn't buy a new one (unless they opened a closer dealership).

I don’t have a CR-V but with my car the road noise is from my winter tires. A friend had a Saturn car with light interior. She had the interior detailed somewhere every year and the car lasted a long time.

I hope you love your CRV as much as I love mine 😁.
The Odyssey we bought last year has road noise from the tires that came on it ... I haven’t been able to justify spending the $$ to replace them (yet).
