I like how the word entitlements rolls off his tongue like a filthy cuss when speaking about programs to help keep the most vulnerable of our society alive, but speak of tax breaks for billionaires and he's all gentle-gentle, handle them with care, lest their yacht accumulation might be stifled.
He's not only a terrible president, he's a terrible human being.

The largest voting block is Baby Boomers from my understanding. I honestly can't see this happening. This group has paid into their benefits for 50+ years. Besides, what senator wants to be known for cutting benefits for his Grandma? Sadly, I do think that cuts to MedicAID might be in trouble. After all, who wants to support lazy, young people who refuse to work? <insert serious eye roll here>.  I do agree there are some diagnosis' that I shake my head at. Our best strategy is to get that odious, cretin voted out of office and any other senators or congresspersons who support him.  |

Besides, what senator wants to be known for cutting benefits for his Grandma? Sadly, I do think that cuts to MedicAID might be in trouble. The cap on which income is taxed is DISGUSTING. Make 60k/year your ENTIRE salary is subject to SS tax. Make $21 MILLION? Only the first $137,700 is subject. So only .6% (.006 ratio) is being taxed.
IT's GOOD TO BUY THE LAWS!!!

A group of Senior Republican Senators got trump’s ear about this several months ago and claimed then he was open to it because “it needed to be done”.
The way I see it, this is the price the Republicans are charging trump for protecting him.

My Dad and a lot of my elderly relatives feel the are entitled to those safety nets, so they'll be safe and Trump will look out for them specifically. I'm fairly certain that is how a lot of Trump voters feel about their safety nets. Magical thinking.

Nothing will come of this. Trump has done this twice already in his budgets in varying ways. At the end of the day, it’s still Congress that puts together the federal budget and votes it. Like before, the Dem-controlled House will dismiss his proposed cuts as a non-starter and ignore them. Now, let’s say Trump wants to increase the full retirement age and the Republicans are on board. That’ll still require a supermajority vote in the Senate, something Republicans do not have.

My Dad and a lot of my elderly relatives feel the are entitled to those safety nets, so they'll be safe and Trump will look out for them specifically. I'm fairly certain that is how a lot of Trump voters feel about their safety nets. Magical thinking. That's why it is ok for them, their families and friends to collect welfare, they are not abusing the system like those others! |

We’re good in the House if we can maintain the majority. It’s the Senate that really needs working because we lost seats we couldn’t afford to lose. (This is why I couldn’t understand why Pelosi was being criticized by her own party when she delivered a thumping win, yet Schumer who managed to lose seats was free of the vitriol. Effing screwed up. This is still the kind of shit women have to put up with.) |

-Cut out entitlements (and republicans thought this only mean Democrat entitlements)

IIRC, Paul Ryan was talking about this already back when he was Speaker of the House. it’s never been a secret. This was Ryan's pet project while he was in Congress, and his primary goal, despite receiving Social Security Survivors benefits himself from when he was 15 until he turned 21, which coincided with Social Security Survivors benefits changing to stop at 18 or graduation from high school. Until 1981, Survivors benefits were payable until one was 21 or graduated from College. |

Her grandchildren are on Medicaid, and we told her that their benefits would likely be cut under Trump. Her response was that we needn't worry, because the kids are some of the "good ones" - and he's only going to go after the "bad ones."
So who exactly is retired and receiving SS that is one of the "bad ones" - and how does she know that SHE won't be considered in that group? She's an immigrant, she has health issues. She's no longer contributing. Sounds like a "bad one" to me.

I'm not familiar with his medical issues, but if he is disabled in any way and still able to work and avoid Medicaid, kudos to him!!!!! The same could have been said for me for decades. Despite dozens of surgeries and constant, immense pain, I was able to work, have babies and try to live as best as I could. Things intensified as I got older. More surgeries and years of recovery was needed; pain intensified to the point where I had to stop working as a paralegal (too stressful on my vision)... I finally had to admit that I was disabled to the point of needing help, medical, etc. It's not something that I'm proud of. I'd love to go back in time and be more independent and in less pain, but that's life. No one should be denied disability. I only got medicare vs. Medicaid (no idea why, since I was indigent at that point & still am). Without my Medicare, I couldn't have medical help and surgeries (I've had 7 in the past 5 years). If people are scamming Medicaid, that's terrible, but please know that it is sad and humbling to admit when we're not able to function, contribute and support yourself due to your medical condition. (Don't mean to overstep or discuss politics in this post, but I wanted my personal journey to be kept in mind. I pray that your son won't ever take a turn for the worse and have to depend on the government, but it happens.) |
