I'm ordering directly from the store and they didn't calculate in a tip like Instacart does. How much should I tip the driver when he delivers my groceries. TIA!

Minimum $5, maximum $10 depending on what, how much, and how heavy my order is. I live less than a mile from the store.
ETA: I live alone so my orders are not huge.

I tip a minimum of $5 or 10% (ie I think $3 on a $30 order is too little), or more if the order is really heavy, complicated, or in inclement weather.

Depends on a lot of factors- how much is the order, how bad is the weather, how grateful am I for being able to use the service.

I tip $5 for my delivery and usually around Christmas I give him a little more. We usually get the same delivery guy.

Thanks for the answers. I'm on the second floor of an apartment and have a herniated cervical disc so I'm depending on deliveries right now!

On my last order of $43, I tipped $7. I use Amazon Fresh and it defaults to $5. I don't use it often but I'd tip more next time. Used it because I was sick. I don't think the delivery people are paid well.

I tip $5. Our order is almost always the same size and around the same price.

Y'all are making me feel cheap. I use an internet-only grocery (there is no brick-and-mortar store), and I tip $5 every week, whether I get one box or four. I know many people do not tip at all. There is a delivery fee, and the website is explicit that you do not have to tip. I have an elevator, so the guys just roll the dolly right to my door (I don't ask them to bring the stuff to the kitchen, as many people do). The two times they've come when the elevator was out, I tipped quite a bit extra - and one time, I came down with a couple of strong teenagers to hump the stuff up the stairs with me.
Now I'm going to have to interview my local friends to see what people customarily give. It is my primary grocery store, so I use it every week - it's not an occasional "treat."

I generally tip $10. I always hope it’s enough of a tip because I really appreciate not having to go to the store.

Our local grocery store charges a delivery fee and a small service fee but explicitly says that delivery drivers do not accept tips.

For me it depends on if the person is a shopper, or just a driver. As a Shipt Shopper, on a no-tip order of $50 as the register price, I would make $8.75. If it took me 45 min to go to the store, shop your stuff and deliver, I’d make an hourly rate of $11/hour, before gas and wear and tear on my car. When I use this service I tip one way. For the amazon driver who just shows up at the warehouse and gets a carload full of deliveries and has to dedicate less than 10 minutes to my order, I tip differently.

I tipped $5 because he just dropped off the groceries at the door because of my little yappy dog. Definitely nice to have the groceries brought up to my apartment!

As an Instacart shopper, I want to thank you for tipping. Some weeks my tips are almost as much as what Instacart pays me!

I only order from Safeway/Albertsons and they are not allowed to accept tips. Minimum wage here is $13.50 hr.

Oh wow, I never considered that the delivery person might have actually shopped for you! I assumed they'd have in-house people who only packed orders, then separate drivers who only did deliveries. I guess that wouldn't make sense for a regular-size grocery store.

Usually $5. If it is really heavy, or if it is snowing or storming out I give them more.
I love Shipt. It’s one of my favorite things.

May I ask why you don’t tip? As a former waitress, I tend to over tip. I get groceries delivered from Publix (Instacart) and it is usually around $150. I always tip $20.

I ordered from Tom Thumb which is owned by Albertsons and my delivery guy took the $5 without any hesitation. When my orders come from Safeway they are delivered by a big refrigerated Safeway truck with a driver that only drives and delivers. Shopping is done by others also employed by the delivery section of the company. Part of Safeway but not the regular grocery store workers. I use the 4 hour window option so I never pay a delivery fee although they have recently added $3.95 service fee on all deliveries. It says on their site that drivers are not allowed to accept tips.

I would imagine for the same reason I don’t. People are already being paid to deliver items to me. Why would I tip them as well? (I live in the UK, and we do not have anything like the same tipping culture you have in the US - thankfully!) So we don’t have the constant quandary about who to tip, when to tip, how much, percentage or flat rate and so on and so on ad nauseum. We just very rarely tip anyone!
