Hello All,
We may be visiting Rochester, NY (specifically University of Rochester) for a couple of days in the very near future and looking for recommendations of where to stay/do/eat.
I don't mind paying a little extra (but not extravagant) on a hotel to be safe/comfortable.
Is it easy to get around if we rented a car?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Brenda

We toured RIT in Rochester 3 years ago, twice. Once in the summer and then again in March for accepted students weekend. We drove, and it seemed easy enough to get around. Would guess Ubers are around because it's a college town, but don't know for a fact. Don't remember where we stayed--a newish, chain hotel closer to RIT, which in the 'burbs whereas I think U of Rochester may be closer to downtown. We drove out to a park by Lake Ontario, which was in a summer resort-y area and drove around downtown. We really enjoyed a restaurant called Blu Wolf Bistro in a residential part of downtown Rochester-tons of craft beers and good burgers.

I live in a suburb of Rochester. U of R is basically on the south edge of the city, so a pretty safe area. I don't know hotels, but you could be in any of the suburbs & be relatively close to campus if you're renting a car. Maybe look for something in Henrietta or Brighton.
This is a great city, not too big, easy to get around driving. And there's plenty to do. Lots of history. Beautiful scenery. What time of year would you be coming?

Go see The Strong National Museum of Play. It’s not just for kids!

Go eat at Sal’s Birdland or Country Sweet wings (the wing place used to be next to the Wegmans by campus).
Nick Tahoe garbage plate is an experience but it’s in a bad part of town.

We were back in Rochester about a year ago and had an amazing meal at Guido’s Pasta Villa.

Wait 5 minutes and it will change. LOL. If she stays in the area I suggested she doesn’t have to go very far to get to the University of Rochester or the airport so there wouldn’t be a lot of driving.

Go to the Eastman/Kodak Museum and grounds as well. It is beautiful. The cemetery is really amazing as well. My absolute favorite thing to do in Rochester was actually travel about 30 minutes away to LeRoy to see the Jello Museum. Truly remarkable. If you have time I can’t recommend it enough! I think Vidler’s is close by? And the town that was the inspiration for Its a Wonderful Life. All drivable in any event. I love Rochester.

That is so cool you live in LeRoy! Love your Jello Museum, even though Jello itself gives me the creeps. The other sites didn’t seem that far, but we did do stops along the way. Where I live though an hour isn’t considered a bad drive at all. Our cemeteries are all very flat and uninteresting, the monuments and the important people there was amazing. Rochester was certainly a hotbed for important inventions. LeRoy is just about 30 minutes isn’t it? I was really sad last time I was there that the Fisher Price Museum was closed, although that may not have been considered very close in any event.

I don't eat it...LOL Fisher Price is in East Aurora near Vidler's--over an hour from Rochester. Mt. Hope is also where Susan B. Anthony is buried. LeRoy is about 30...a little less and right off the NYS Thruway!

Thank you again! I love all the suggestions! This CA girl will not be driving if it snowing, especially if it's icy! Any recommendations on where to stay?
