You can do the same with phone calls too. There is a switch to turn off your ringer from unknown callers. You’ll get a message instead that someone from an unknown number tried to call you.

I have mine set for this. You still see the number flash across the screen, and it will tell you you have a missed call from that number, but the phone doesn’t ring (Mine is set to silent anyway, so I never hear it ring), but the ring screen doesn’t show up at all.
I’m not sure about text messages. I haven’t gotten a lot of spam texts, so it’s hard to know if it’s blocking those, or not.

I have this set enabled and I do like it but don't love it. Things like phone calls from our doctors, vet, etc. tend to go straight to voice mail. I have their main numbers in my contacts but when they are calling, they're usually calling from different numbers. Also, most of my work calls are via Zoom but there are times I need to fall back on phone and I have to be the one to initiate the call or else they'll get sent to voice mail (I don't keep most of my client contacts in my main contacts on my phone). It's not a *big* deal but a little extra friction a few times a week. On the whole, I think it's worth it, but I do wish there was some way to intercept the call. Maybe have a setting that it still won't ring but will give you a notification that lets you answer the call. (The notification that comes through now is too fast to act on.)

I would do this, except when DH calls from work it always comes from Unknown. He’s not very reachable by phone so I don’t want to miss a call. I do get calls now that my iPhone classifies as “might be spam” when it rings.

Yes, I have my calls filtered too except for the text message as I tell people to either email or text me. I also tell them to make sure to leave me a message, otherwise I won't get back to them.
