I learned in HS -76- and loved it! My life plan had been to be a secretary; took typing, shorthand and office procedures. Was a two-period class. I was pretty fast, if I recall correctly. Went on to a “business school” similar to Katherine Gibbs, and honed my skills, including make up lessons, as well. Got a job where I used my shorthand quite a bit. It had been suggested that to keep your skills up, to listen to the SOTU and take it down. I actually thought about that this year, but could not bring myself to do it. I really don’t recall much of the shorthand, but if I found my books? It would probably come back to me
One odd thing that’s stuck with me is not having the cap of a pen on the pen while writing. It’s added weight, and can slow you down while taking dictation.

It wasn’t offered where I went to school. I did take a semester of typing, maybe in 9th or 10th grade as an elective. My 4th grader does keyboarding as part of her media/library class and has since about 1st grade.

Yes, I learned it in high school along with how to use a dictaphone! I used it briefly as a Administrative Assistant.

I don’t know if it was offered in my high school. I graduated in 1983. After leaving the military, I ended up in admin jobs where it would have come in handy.

I don't know shorthand. It was offered when I was in school but the only people who took the class was those who wanted to be secretaries. I never, ever wanted to be a secretary. My mom wrote shorthand and was really good at it. She made all of her Christmas lists in shorthand.
