Just anecdotal, but as a resident of South Florida it will probably be the next major hot spot. People are running back and forth from New York and New Jersey then hitting the beaches and golf courses.
It appears a lot of people here have a life as usual attitude. Many beaches and golf courses remain open and people are just hanging out together, having parties, large groups of kids and teens hanging out, non-essential businesses are open and some university campuses are electing to conduct college classes just like it is any another day. So scary and irritating.

Between the incorrect information that Trump is putting out and the me, me, me attitude of a good portion of our younger generation, I’m not at all surprised that the US will have more cases and have to deal with this longer than other countries. The younger generation have been told it isn’t a big deal and it mostly affects older people. So they just go about their selfish ways going to the beach, having parties, and doing whatever they want to do. I watched some teens interviewed and they were saying that they were very strong, young, and healthy and didn’t worry about their immunity. Yet, the trend in the US is for more people between 18 and 40 coming down with it, and more men than women.
In other countries, they are not only taking the stay-at-home orders to heart, the police and military are out enforcing it. I saw one situation where there were a few people laying on the beach despite the beaches being posted as closed. They brought in a helicopter and flew it really low, whipping sand up all over and chasing the people off the beach. A tourist was swimming in the hotel pool and refused to come out. An officer stripped to his underwear and dove in and dragged her out. Why are people not listening?
And yes, I do put a lot of blame on Trump for the way he handled this from the beginning. And Trump recently tweeted this:
———————————
“HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN, taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine. The FDA has moved mountains - Thank You! Hopefully they will BOTH (H works better with A, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents)..“
——————————-
A Phoenix couple self medicated with Chloroquine and within 30 minutes, required hospitalization. The husband has died, the wife is still in the hospital and they have not announced her condition in what I read. How freaking irresponsible is that for a president to do?
Apparently the pills are also used in fish tanks so it can be purchased without a prescription. I’m hoping all pet stores lock it down. And the couple were not even sick! They wanted to treat it just in case because Trump called it a game changer.
I know people are afraid, but seriously?
DH was a pack a day smoker until the age of about 34. Might that affect his lungs' ability to handle something like this? I have no idea.
How long has it been since he quit? 9 months to a year or longer and his lung function should have improved by a lot. It can take 15 years to reduce the cardiac effect of smoking but the lungs bounce back much more quickly.

I read that NY has more cases than South Korea There certainly does seem to be more cases among younger people generally now than there was in the beginning There is in Australia, too. The age spread is wider, starting with a 2 year old girl. A 21 year old girl has just died in my neck of the woods No underlying conditions apparently.

MIL said she "heard" that we were already at peak. She heard it on the tv while walking through the living room. Guess what station is always on at their house.

An assisted living/nursing home was evacuated right around the corner from me. 20+ positive, patients and employees. Fairly small facility!

UPDATE: I was wrong. It only took us 2 days. The USA now has the highest # of COVID-19 cases in the world. We have passed China and Italy - and we are at the early part of our upswing.

I would trust Italy's numbers, but not China. I also wonder how we can compare the U.S. and China based on the type of governments; communist and constitutional federal republic.
Then there's the estimated populations
Italy, 60 million China, 1.44 billion United States, 330 million
I know the U.S. has handled this poorly.

I wish New York had issued a shelter in place order a lot earlier. The Bay Area had one on March 16th and I do believe that helped to minimize the spread.

Slightly off topic, but I am curious to see how Sweden comes out of this. Currently, from what I have read, they are doing business as usual. I am in a shelter in place state, California, and have stayed home, and can stay home for several more days until I might need some staples. I am trying to stay in my house/yard for two weeks. Our neighborhood is pretty quiet, and I don't know what the stores look like but I do have family members that work, that have limited contact with the public, and they say it is busy out there. People are so stubborn, just stay home.

I inhaled the secondhand smoke of two heavy smokers from infanthood until I moved out at 26. I have no idea what my lungs look like.

trump just now: “A lot of good things are happening. The mortality rate... in my opinion, it’s way way down”
and then turns around and says something like they might not agree or have different numbers... (referring to those behind him)
because FACTS aren't your effing opinion, pinhead.
"in my opinion" fuck off! (bye bye remains of my filter!)

I looked some info up and in January 2018, about 3 million people traveled out of the US. Then add in all the people who traveled TO the US during that time. That is a lot of people who potentially brought it here. So of course our number will be high. I don’t know how we could have ever prevented or stopped this. Maybe we need to stop all international travel period. Everyone stays in their own country and keeps their cooties to themselves?? (Sort of said tongue in cheek) travel.trade.gov/view/m-2019-O-001/index.htmlWunderground has a map where you can see confirmed cases across the US. If you zoom into the states, you can see most of the “hotspots” are tourist areas like Seattle, LA, San Diego, New Orleans, FL and NY. I would expect this to change once all these tourists are back home across the US now and spreading it further. www.wunderground.com/wundermap?covid=1&lat=47.659&lon=-117.425&cm_ven=covid-map

Add population density to the equation as well and it is complicated for sure. Not something my brain could pin point accurately.

I haven't read the entire thread yet... but yesterday I saw a news clip of a local AZ health official saying that she thought the peak # of cases for Arizona would come in mid-late April, and the peak in hospitalizations wouldn't be until MAY. MAY. That is SO. FAR. AWAY. from right now, it is FRIGHTENING. ETA: yesterday or the day before, Rachel Maddow had a person on who is the head of a company that makes smart thermometers that send data to the company for trcking purposes. They're tracking users' temperatures / locations, and subtracting out for the *usual* cold/flu numbers, they first saw a spike in unusual fevers in and around New York-- then the COVID-19 #s exploded there. NOW, according to their data, the highest temps are spiking in Florida. So I would bet that will be the next hot spot. Yay- a state full of old people in medically fragile health, with an abundance of pre-existing conditions. They're tracking the data and overlaying it onto a US map to see where fevers are occurring. this article is about their technology, from a couple days ago: Kinsa's fever map also this site: US Health Weather Map by Kinsa

In all fairness, the US population far exceeds that of Italy, France, or South Korea. And we know darn well the Chinese numbers aren’t accurate.
It’s bad. So, so bad. Really, the only answer is to shut the world down for a month. And we know that isn’t going to happen.

As of March 26, private golf courses in Palm Beach County seem to remain open. This is the county of Mar-a-Largo and Trump International. Not sure but also think not all areas in the state have closed beaches.
I live on a private golf course, will see if I can post photos of golfers tomorrow.

Of the 600+ cases in NC, the average age of someone with the virus is 41. That surprised me.

Yes, and in all fairness, we also know that due to an extreme lack of testing that our (USA) numbers aren’t even close to being accurate either. The question becomes whether China’s lying surpasses our numbers of untested and unconfirmed cases.
