Im trying to expand my reading material, I normally get trapped in the YA comedies or whats popular right now. I want something that will make me think more and out of the box, something I dont want to put down! I just ordered All The Lights We Cannot See based on you peas Has anyone read The Goldfinch? I did and really liked it - gave it 5 stars. Batya was the one who convinced me to read it. I miss her and her weekly input on this thread. Anywho, it is one of my top-10 picks for the year. I loved the quality of Tartt's beautiful literary writing. However, it's admittedly long-winded. Lisa

Just one for me this week, The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand. I always enjoy her books, and this was no exception. It was a little predictable, but no worse for that!

Has anyone read The Goldfinch? It was my Book Club book a couple of months ago. It is absolutely amazing and incredible writing about a character and story that, especially near the end, I wanted to shower after spending time with. Blech. I am participating in the Laura Ingalls Wilder class, so I finished A Writer's Life by Pamela Hill Smith, which reads like the author's dissertation but is interesting in the discussion about how LIW came to write her novels, her relationship with her daughter, and about the process of publishing. Then, I read Young Pioneers by Rose Wilder Lane, which solidified how wonderful Laura's writing is, even though it contains a lot of the same episodes, it was not as wonderful of a story.
