Borderline. I think it can be done for the right reasons and if I saw one out and about I would give the child and her parents the benefit of the doubt. But who the heck destroys a boogie board for a costume? Those suckers are expensive. I guess a surfboard was too expensive to destroy so they had to make do with what they could find? They were $5 at Five Below all summer. The same boards you would pay $30 for at the market at the beach.

I get the ideas of her being a re model, just not quite sure that it translates into a Halloween costume! The worst that I have ever seen was the girl who dressed as a Boston Marathon Survivor--a running outfit that was all bloodily

She is probably a role model to the child. I'm more bothered that she is carrying a boogie board

I think it's in poor taste. I would also be unlikely to allow my kid put in a position where people would get very angry with her and confront her about her costume. I saw that happen many moons ago with a kid dressed up like a Tylenol capsule after the Tylenol poisoning deaths. It was not a good night for that kid, let's put it that way.

Personally, I think it is in bad taste and wouldn't let my kids wear it. But I can't tell other parents what to do with their kids costumes. There are some I have seen on tv (not this one), that I can't believe people are wearing. But I am probably just a prude when it comes to costumes.

If I opened my door to her on Hallowe'en, I would think it is an odd costume.
I know who Bethany is, watched the movie, admire her on Amazing Race, think she is a remarkable woman. But I bet a lot of people opening the door to her will not understand the costume. And a lot will think it isn't in good taste.
So even though the girls intentions are good, it wouldn't be a costume I would let my daughters wear.

I'd be curious to see what Bethany thought of this whole idea. But I agree with gloryjoy that most people would not know who she is and could react negatively or be offended.

It doesn't have to be called Soul Surfer, just a surfing costume and yes when you surf you run the risk of sharks so the cut out on the board is funny in that context.

I think that it is okay. If Bethany is comfortable enough to make a movie about her injury, then I think that it is okay for people to dress up as her.
