Interesting that a community leader that called into Kare11 just talked about worries about gentrification following these riots. I guess she is an anomaly like my husband since I was railed on here yesterday for saying the same thing.

We spent quite a bit of time at that hospital when we lived in the area, many years ago. This breaks my heart. ALL of this breaks my heart.

It is crazy that they are going to residential areas now. But I guess if they don’t have anywhere to go...

I'm very glad Children's is taking precautions like boarding up all the glass and such. It does sound to me, from the statement, as though they are preemptive/defensive moves, though, and not that the hospital has been attacked. And if I understand the statement that way, I would think others could read it that way, as well.
That certainly doesn't mean we're not all worried sick about everyone there!

The hospital definitely has not been attacked and I certainly don’t think I lead anyone to believe the hospital was being looted, set on fire, etc. I can change my title if that’s what people thought. However, random looters HAVE made their way to the area of the hospital and those cars were left smashed, with bricks, and graffiti indicating justice for Mr. Floyd. The hospital is on a total lockdown, they are being heavily guarded by their own security and the national guard, and today boarded up their heavy glass front as what I’m sure was a precaution and probably a suggestion. I have friends who work there that were not allowed to leave last night. They said the situation is extremely scary and all departments are reviewing evacuation procedures. I imagine many hospitals are in similar situations, as a poster mentioned Omaha. Many large hospitals are in downtown areas where looting is happening. It’s a very scary time to care for sick people and look out the windows and see your cities in bad shape. Just continuing to pray for my friends and their patients and all the hospitals right now, who are also treating some of these rioters who are being injured. It’s a tough few months to work in a hospital.

It's definitely a very, very difficult time to be working in a hospital, Dani-Mani. My brother and both his sons are nurses. We worry about them every day.
Sending strong, positive vibes of good health and protection to your friends.
