From the south of France so cheese is the main player on the board for us: - several types of goat cheese: young and super soft, crumbly and hard - whichever other kind of cheese we're in the mood for (usually, Roquefort sneaks in there as it's my fave) - a jamón from Spain to honour my SO - local olives, green and black - seasonal fruit (right now, fresh and dried apricots and grapes) - honey (to drizzle over the goat cheese) - local olive oil (for drizzling purposes) - almonds - fresh rosemary sprigs (it's all about building your perfect bite) - tiny cornichons Always essential just next to the board are wine, cheese knives, fresh bread/baguette and the pepper grinder. Ours are most of the time pretty plain looking. Something like this:

I like a variety of hard and soft cheese, dates, figs, smoked almonds, prosciutto, salami, bacon jelly, dried apricots, cracker of your choice, olives. The beauty of a charcuterie board that you get to create it with your favorites! Enjoy the journey! I literally just drooled all over my keyboard!

This is the WRONG thread to read first thing in the morning BEFORE breakfast (highly disappointed at my intended bowl of cereal).

There have been so many great ideas on here, I can't wait to try!
I do have a question, though. What do you do with the leftovers, if there are any? Toss? Cover with wrap and put in fridge? Return to package?

Return to package? Yeah, this is why we just put out the packages and fix our own plates. But that isn't very fancy!

Some great new ideas! Leftovers go into the fridge and we’re either do it again the next day or we eat it throughout the week. Love a pastrami and Gorgonzola melt for lunch, cheeses are used in a pasta dish, pizza toppings, afternoon snack (prosciutto filed with a soft cheese), some grapes or a handful of nuts. It usually disappears quickly!

Pickles and pickled items go well on charcuterie boards. I often include compote or jam, figs, apples and grapes for sweetness. Once a year, my DH smokes honey and that is always a nice little addition. Nuts are good, too. Add these to a nice variety of meats, cheeses and crackers, and you will have no complaints.
I love making charcuterie boards and will pickle my own veggies and make my own sauces/jams/compotes. Trader Joe's is great for cheese and crackers.

In the “before time” 😉 we were part of a dinner party group with 5 other couples. When it was our turn to host they knew they would get a charcuterie board to match the theme of the evening.
We would get cheeses from Aldi or the Italian market nearby. Nuts, fruit, olives, meat, and yummy cheese. I cut out mini signs with black cardstock and toothpicks and would label each item. Our board looks like a slice of tree and spins around-it is about 2’ in diameter and we love it!
Tonight I made one for dinner for the 2 of us. It was mostly bits and bobs we had already but not enough for a full meal. Plus we went to the farmer’s market today and got fresh cheese and rosemary bread.
Steamed shrimp Grilled chicken breast sliced Olives Cucumber 3 cheeses cut into small pieces Hummus Bread Honey crisp apple
It was delicious! Paired with a lemon basil crush. Yum!!!

We have them a lot in Summer here. We call them “platters”’or grazing plates/tables if at a function.

our dinner tonight - I see this being a weekly summer meal sleepingbootyLooks beautiful, Linda! I just want to grab some Wensleydale and a few grapes through my screen... Isn't the picking and sharing so much fun? Super cosy. So glad it was a success and it might be a recurring thing for your family. If it is, you'll simply *have* to make a LO about it.
