Ds does laundryabout every 2 weeks, but 3 of his classes are hybrid and one is online this fall. He is the president of a student organization, so has those meetings (uni level, board, and membership) plus a research group for his capstone project. I will probably send him with 16-18 masks plus a pack of disposables.

I would figure at least 4 or 5 a day. You are really not suppose to take a mask off and then put it back on. Theoretically once it has been worn it is contaminated on the front and should be washed. We all know it will be taken off and on at least to eat and drink so......

One thing to think about is how hot is it where they go to school? Will their masks get hot and sweaty and gross going between classes? Do they have to wear a mask in any kind of physical activity class? If so, I’d want more than one mask per day x days between laundry. We went on a vacation and found we needed multiple masks per day. We needed to change once the masks got sweaty or if they got wet in rain or if they started to stink. That is something I hadn't thought about. It is very hot at DS' school and they go get quite a bit of rain, so that gives me more food for thought. DD's school has an overabundance of rich sorority girls (DD is in a sorority but hers is nowhere near as snooty as the others). I made a joke that I need to make sure she has a mask to coordinate with every outfit and maybe we should get some monogrammed ones as well. There are plenty of places around here to get monogrammed masks and so many different styles. If it stands still down South, it will get monogrammed!!!! That is a joke, but I guarantee that there will be some that will have those.

Not sure what happened to my post above.
If it stands still it is monogrammed in the South. Many different styles of monogramming are available too. A Kindergarten teacher we know posted each child will need at minimum 3 per day with their name CLEARLY marked. It makes sense when you think of sneezing, runny noses and just plain dropping them on the floor.

I’ve debated saying anything, but I feel this will ease some people’s minds, so I will.
Some here are confusing the rules for sterile mask wearing in medical situations with cloth face covering to slow the spread of Covid19.
The purpose of our mask wearing is to stop most of the airborne droplets that leaves our mouth or nose when we breathe, speak, sing, or cough and sneeze. The virus cells themselves are super tiny, and could go through most masks, but they need to hitch a ride on the droplets. A mask that has been taken off for whatever reason will still perform this function.
If course masks should be washed, and replaced with a clean one if they become gross with sweat, wet from rain, ect. HAND washing in conjunction with mask wearing will make this effective. For instance, Wash your hands after handling your mask.
I have seen some medical personnel themselves saying that mask wearing is pointless if you’re not following sterile procedure, but that is not why we are being asked to wear masks. We are just keeping most our respirations from traveling to other people.
ETA: Researchers are finding that you have to have quite a few of the virus particles in order to become infected. Therefore, even a simple cloth mask which stops most of the droplets and therefore the particles will do a lot to stop the spread

For kids I would look into the gaiters. They can be worn around the neck when eating and pulled up again. They can also be swished in soapy water and hung to dry overnight. I have one I wear running on the rail trail and it’s very easy to wear and breathe through.

I think you need several for each day (and depending on how often laundry is done). Especially if you are in a hot or humid climate. I work at a major university in FL and we will be requiring everyone (staff, faculty and students) to wear masks. I already have about 10 but will be getting some more I think.

Has anyone received the masks from Old Navy?? I ordered a bunch and hoping they will be comfortable. DD will be required to wear a mask (after all out of province students quarantine for 2 weeks!!!) I will likely send a box of disposable as well.... will probably send 10-15 cloth..... imagine she won’t be doing laundry regularly. I ordered 2 sets of masks for my family from Old Navy on May 19. My latest update from them stated they would be shipped July 20. ☹️
