The funny thing for me about the Shingrix vaccine is that I didn’t feel bad after either shot. My arm, however, reacted badly and developed red splotches that lasted for weeks and were hot and itchy. A pharmacist recommended Benadryl cream, which really relieved the itching. I know someone, a very healthy man, who got a horrible case of shingles and had trouble swallowing for months. So on the whole, I feel very relieved that I got vaccinated.

We got ours 2 weeks ago. Was that too early? We don't fall into the elderly range.

I just had taken DD to the clinic for a well child visit last week and we were told they wouldn’t have them available until this week. I’m also due for the shingles vaccine, probably a tetanus booster and Lord knows what else.

Our area of Ca doean't get and start giving shots until mid September. I haven't gotten a flu shot in 11 years but dh and I are both getting one this year. If Covid wasn't here, we'd skip. I haven;t gotten a flu shot in years, and my endocrinologist said it was so important this year... so I guess I will.

Our pharmacist said late September for us, so I'll have to drag the needle phobic DH with me sometime before our DD's wedding. I'm supposed to travel in early November to see my sister. We're still planning on it but it's all up to how these next 2 months go. In any case, we always get the flu shot.

I went into CVS tonight to pick up a prescription . Since it wasn't crowded, I decided to get the flu shot while I was there especially after reading this thread. The pharmacist said that there have been lots of people coming in and she is concerned they will run out soon. I got my first Shingix shot last month. The only reaction I had was a sore arm for almost a week. I am not looking forward to the second shot.

I'm going to try to get mine with my next infusion appointment. One stop shopping and don't have to go into a store.
If not, I will probably go in target for the first time since March.

In the past 10 days I had a mammogram and saw a dermatogist and opthamologiest for long overdue screenings. I thought it was interesting that each practice asked when I last got a flu vaccine. In the past only my primary care doctor asked about the flu shot.

We all got vaccinated in the Elaine Household yesterday. We have sore arms, but otherwise no side effects. Glad to have that taken care of!

I give them for work so I’ll get one soon.
My pcp is having a drive through flu shot clinic this weekend & next. Your entire family can come even if they don’t go to that practice.

This year’s vaccine is available now, but it is recommended to wait until September/October for older Americans in order to have active coverage later in the flu season. It is also recommended to get the shot by the end of October. I have my physical at the end of October but I also want the shingles vaccine. Not doing both on the same day..a friend of mine did (as did her DH) and they felt like crap for 2 days I was vaccinated for shingles last week, no flu shot. My arm was sore enough that I woke up at night. I had a headache and low grade fever the next day. I read those are common side effects. I wonder if your friend's reaction was more to the shingles vaccination than the combination with the flu shot.

I happened to get my first shingle shot a couple weeks ago. It felt fine until the next night when I rolled over my arm hurt in that area. I can't say it was much different from how the flu shot feels after, just lasted a couple days longer. I'll wait until October some time for the flu shot.

Hey everyone! It is more important than usual to get a flu shot this year. With COVID-19, it is important to prevent as much serious flu as possible this season. Good reminder. I'll probably wait until the end of the month because me and my son will be home. My friend who used to run marathons got the flu and unfortunately she had some of the rare serious side effects that will be with her the rest of her life. That really woke me up to get one because she was very healthy.

It was just some random time of day, not generally busy. I was 3rd in line to get it, and while I was there, 3 more people showed up for it. I think I'm pushing the rest of the family to do it sooner rather than later so they can actually get one!

The shingles vaccine is 2 shots 3 months apart. I am aware of that Ummm..... you can even go a little longer than that is what the pharmacist told me. I had a reaction to the first shot and wasn’t real excited to get the second one.

Last year after the diabetes diagnosis I was sitting in the chair waiting for the nurse to escort me out with whatever instructions they had for me and in she walks with all kinds of needles. Before I knew it I had both the flu and the pneumonia shot as apparently it is recommended for diabetics?
So I suspect my visit in October will result in the same. Nurse Rachett will grin while watching me squirm like a 2 year old. (She is actually okay but kind of scared me and is the one that makes my blood pressure readings skyrocket lol) and I will spend the day laying about with chills and a neon pink bandaid.
