Does anyone have a counter top ice maker that makes the soft pellet ice like Sonic has? I love this kind of ice and I'm thinking it might help me actually get more water in me.
What brand do you have/love (that doesn't cost a fortune)? Is it worth it? How much room does it take up on the counter? Can it be brought out, ice made and bagged and put away?
Please share your experiences!

Me! Best money I've ever spent. I went with the GE Opal machine and bag it for the freezer and coolers in the summer but it has enough capacity that aside from gallon bags for friends who text for porch pickup when they're in town (the ice is that good) I usually just fill glasses from the machine. It is app connected so I just have it setup produce less at night. I keep a cup next to me all day and my eating ice/drinking water has definitely increased. It's SO good. I took a pic of the area yesterday actually.

I love Sonic ice. There are two gas stations near where I work that have ice machines that are Sonic ice on steroids!
But that is all I got for ya! We did have a friend that had a Sonic ice machine in her house but it was a big machine, installed under the counter. It was an architect's house prior to her owning it. It had a lot of custom built ins.

We had an Opal at work on the counter and I absolutely loved it, but it kept leaking and causing water issues that they removed it. It was brought in from a different building, guess now we know why they took it out of their kitchen.
I have a cheap ice maker on my counter at home that works well enough for a cup of ice but it's not the sonic ice so I don't really eat it. I really would love to invest in an Opal.

Please share your experiences! You’re talking about the ice that is like those tiny little BBs or beads of ice, right? Not cubes, mini cubes, bullets or nuggets. I would love one of those as well. Our refrigerator freezer has an ice maker but it’s connected to our (hard) well water without a filter and I don’t like all the sediment that ends up in my cup. I prefer my water ice cold and even the water straight from our water cooler isn’t cold enough.

This is a less expensive option that I HIGHLY recommend. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07JDCXBV4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_titleThe ice does not come out the same shape as Sonic ice, but it is the same texture as Sonic ice (soft and easy to chew). I was hesitant to purchase it, but it matches my kitchen and I ended up liking the small gumdrop shaped ice even better than pellets. It’s like getting a slightly larger bite of that same soft ice.

I have the same one as Steph, and I adore it. It’s really the only semi-affordable option. Other than it, you’re looking at a Scotsman, which is priced in the thousands.
Other countertop machines (like myshelly mentioned) don’t even compare.

We just bought the GE Opal a couple of weeks ago. Our dumb Samsung fridge ice maker keeps breaking. This has been the best purchase! We didn't get to go on vacation this summer because of 'Rona, and next summer doesn't look good either, so we splurged!

So how does the Opal get water to make the ice? Is it filtered? Do you pour water in yourself?
PSA: A dental hygienist I used to associate with said chewing ice is BAD for your teeth. It is not the ice itself, it is the coldness of the ice.

I have an RCA ice machine from Amazon years ago. My dad was pissed I bought it years ago. We had no ice from the fridge this summer so it was the favourite appliance.

It is not the ice itself, it is the coldness of the ice. There is a tank that you refill, ours runs almost all the time and I think we refill every other day or every third day. In the photo I posted, it is on the left side- it's the entire side of the machine. The plastic compartment is removable, you can fill it from the sink and then the spout goes down so it flows to the tubing. Super easy. I don't chew ice usually but I sometimes do this ice. It's the consistency of a snowball. It's heavenly and just melts when you chew it.

Other countertop machines (like myshelly mentioned) don’t even compare. I've literally tried them all. I actually replaced the other recommendation with the Opal. I should do a side by side comparison. I definitely have too much time on my hands quarantining.

AS soon I started taking iron my ice craving vanished! Me too! I was a mad woman craving ice. I was diagnosed, started a supplement, and the cravings went away. Now I have a little because I enjoy it, and it helps with not snacking, but I don’t hVe an uncontrollable need for it anymore.

AS soon I started taking iron my ice craving vanished! I was going to mention this...if you eat ice frequently because you crave it, not just because you like it, you need to get your iron checked. It's a symptom of anemia.

My ice craving disappeared as soon as I had my daughter. Pica is a sign of anemia, but can also occur in pregnancy. A common craving for pica is ice.

Does everyone not eat the ice that is left in your cup? I don't walk about chewing ice but I certainly have a preference as to what shape/size it is in my drinks.

I was severely anemic. My dentist was flipping out, telling me constantly eating ice was so bad for my teeth but I couldn't stop.

The ONLY thing I like at Sonic is the ice. I think the food is horrible and their drinks are too sugary for me but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their ice. MY sister is coming to visit and I told her I wanted to take her to Sonic to get some ice. She thinks I'm nuts! HA

Your ice maker looks so nice, but the price is too high for me. But I am sure we would get our moneys worth as we all love ice in my family (except my husband, after living in England and Wales, he stopped using ice). But I love the ice pellets in Chick-Fil-A drinks. The ice seems to last longer than my big ice cubes from our ice cube trays. I am so mad I didn't check the price for prime day.
