Paprika just sent me a notice that they have started their Black Friday sale. 40% off mobile device apps and 50% off the desktop versions.
I know that people often ask about recipe manager apps and this is the only one I’ve used for years now, after trying a number of them.

I’ll vouch for it, too. It’s really good. The peas talked me into it- I don’t pay for apps but this one was worth it. I just do the mobile version. I love being able to easily save all the online recipes I find so simply.

My favorite app! My husband calls my iPad the world’s most expensive cookbook because I could probably get rid of all my other apps but would keep my iPad just for Paprika.

Thanks! I was just looking at this app yesterday. Do you know if I were to buy one for my laptop and one for my tablet, would they be two different accounts or would I be able to share the same information between the two? I've been using my laptop when browsing since it's easier on my eyes, but I've been using my iPad in the kitchen. It would be great to use the same account on different devices. *** ETA: Nevermind! I just read further on the website and you can use the same account on different devices.

I absolutely love this app. I have been waiting all year to get it for my laptop. Thanks for the heads up.
I discovered a little trick to use when using Paprika. If you use Pinterest like I do, go to Pinterest using the Paprika app. That way if you find a recipe you like you can download it directly into Paprika without all that click bait that is usually found on Pinterest.

I use my iPad almost exclusively for Paprika now. iPad is at least 6 years old so that's fine. magenta as you saw you can use the same account and your devices will sync. I have the app on my phone, iPad and PC and use it regularly. It's only on the pc so I can easily save recipes from there. You can put a shortcut "save recipe" on your bookmarks bar.

I know that I used one download for my phone and iPad, but had to purchase the desktop version for the Mac. It was worth it because it’s easier to type in my own recipes on the Mac, but I’m wondering if I could have saved myself $10.

You use the same account on all your devices, but you have to purchase separate programs/apps for your mobile devices and your desktop. So, 1 mobile device purchase for all your mobile devices + 1 desktop purchase for your desktop. You use the same account and everything syncs across them.

I use a free site to save all my recipes. It's called: copymethat.com. Works great!

I use the Cookbook app. It converts between metric, Imperial and US customary. It also has free built-in OCR, so I can take a picture of a recipe, and with a few clicks, import it into my recipe collection.

Can you tell me why it's better than Pinterest? I barely ever crack a cookbook anymore. I use Google or Pinterest for recipes.

Can you tell me why it's better than Pinterest? I barely ever crack a cookbook anymore. I use Google or Pinterest for recipes. All your recipes are in one place and easily searchable if you create folders for them. For example, I have a Holiday folder and all my holiday recipes are easily accessible each year. You can place recipes in more than one folder, so for example, many of recipes are in the soup and the instant pot folders. Or the chicken and the instant pot folders. Etc. You can download recipes from sites on the internet with a couple of easy clicks. With Pinterest, recipes can go away if the blog/site you found them goes down. Once they are in your Paprika there are there forever (or until you delete them). The format for the recipes is always the same, regardless of the source, so it is easy to follow. You can create shopping lists easily within the app from the recipes you are using. You can translate - as mentioned above - US or UK recipe measurements into the other system at the click of a button.

Thanks. I purchased for my phone.
I’m not overly tech savvy. If I use my tablet or my phone do I use the mobile app for both? do I have to purchase it twice or just download it twice. I don’t use my laptop that much so I wouldn’t need the windows version, is that correct.

The tablet and phone need to use the same operating system, or you would need a separate purchase. If you aren’t using it on your laptop/desktop, no need for a second purchase. If you have an iPhone/IPad but a Windows PC, the apps will still work seamlessly across platforms.

Just to add to what elaine said above you can also easily scale recipes to increase or decrease to amount, like doubling, halving, 1.5 ing. You can also easily convert measurements from metric to whatever we use in the US. I like a lot of Jamie Oliver’s recipes and it is very easy to convert them. You can search by name of recipe, ingredient, category, notes, source, etc. I love being able to search in my dessert category for a specific ingredient for a recipe from a specific source. You can add ratings. You can share recipes easily with other people via email.

There is also a calendar so that you can meal plan. This week I have added previously to my calendar dishes I am going to make ahead of Thanksgiving. Not only does it add the name of the dish but it also attaches the recipe and will add ingredients to your shopping list. The only problem I have found is that I can't figure out how to delete an item entirely from my pantry without Paprika saying it is out of stock. Sometimes I just don't want to buy the item again.
ETA: I just poked around on the desktop version you can delete items permanently from your pantry using the edit function. I just never figured how to do it on my IPAD.

I purchased it last year or the year before at the suggestion of Peas and really happy with it. I have the app and desktop versions. One of my goals was to get my recipes better organized. I took my time and typed family recipes into the desktop version and even included photos. I use the phone app way more, probably 3-5 times a week!
I sometimes use the meal planning/calendar features also.
But the best is just downloading from those crazy recipe blogs where there are so many ads.

I love it! I have the folders all set up to mirror how I have them in Pinterest, too so they are consistent. Best app ever.

ETA: I just poked around on the desktop version you can delete items permanently from your pantry using the edit function. I just never figured how to do it on my IPAD. On an iPad, swipe the item from right to left, then tap the red Delete panel that appears. I use the Meal Planner, and the Menu planner, every day. I have set up 8 Menus - each one has all the meals for a week, so I have our meals organised on an 8-week rotation. Then each week I just select the next week’s menu into the calendar/meal planner and run the grocery list to know what I need to buy for that week. I do swap out meals, to try new ones or because of seasonal changes with vegetables etc. It did take a while to set it up (though I didn’t set up all 8 weeks’ menus at once) but it saves so much time during any week. My meals are planned, and with a couple of favourite exceptions, we have a different meal each night over 8 weeks. Making my grocery list takes a minute or two and I don’t end up being short of some items and over-supplied with others. I use the Pantry section for things I like to have ‘in stock: - things like canned foods, sauces and the like. I don’t use it for fruit and vegetables and the things we consume daily. The ease of getting an online recipe into Paprika is incredible. 1.On my iPad, and using my usual browser (you don’t need to use Paprika’s built-in browser), I find a recipe I want. 2. Click the share button. 3. Click the Paprika icon that appears. And it is done. The recipe is now in Paprika, complete with photo. I do go into it though, to select the folder/category I want to store it in. I have the usual desserts, baking categories etc, but for main meals I have top-level categories set up by how long they take to cook. So I have Mains-30 mins, Mains-30 to 60 mins, Mains-1 hour+. Then within each of those I have sub-categories for beef, lamb, chicken, seafood etc.
