Yesterday morning at work my DH was in the parking lot at warehouse getting in his car to go to job site when one of his buddies ran up and tackled him to be funny. Turned out to not be too funny. My DH now has a broken humerus, just below the shoulder joint. These guys are in their forties, not teenagers. 🙄
He went to dr yesterday but they never called back once the X-ray was read. Didn’t sleep because of pain. Called dr this morning and was told to come back in. Spent today getting a splint on it and a sling. He has an appointment in the morning with ortho dr. Praying he doesn’t need surgery.
Dreading to hear how long he will have to be off work. I know there’s never a good time for an injury but financially things are so tight right now. Between my job being crazy slow due to COVID, the expense of Christmas, and three girls in college with tuition payments due this week.........
I want to cry. 😢 Thanks for letting me vent!

Oh no! That's awful! I guess some people never grow up. I hope your husband has as speedy a recovery as possible!

Um never. My husband was captain of his wrestling team in high school and he is particularly fond of showing off his wrestling moves in the bedroom. 🤣🤣🤣. Sorry. Drinking right now. It’s been a bad day without knowing what was happening in DC. And national nonsense on top of what I had to deal with at work...well that requires a stiff drink or 3.
I hope your husbands arm heals perfectly, and doesn’t require surgery. I feel you on the financial aspect of a break right now. 😬

My husband and son never do, but my father and brother wrestled until my dad was in his sixties or seventies and would get giant purple bruises.

I hope those guys pay for all medical bills! This guy should be responsible for lost pay too. Sounds like it was his fault! I hope your husband feels better. That sounds so painful. I don't know the answer, but none of the men in my life act like that. Now my daughters (17, 21 and 23) still like to mess around and try to catch each other off guard! I tell them any medical bills will be their responsibility if someone gets hurt!

Well, right now DH would come unglued if anyone other than our kids or me got within 10 feet of him...so yeah, never. Was this idiot wearing a mask? Was he a co worker? And this was on company property? I would be in the HR office so fast raising hell...

He was injured at work. Did he report it? Workmans Comp case. I agree, workman's comp but also some sort of violation at work/harassment, etc...you cannot physically use your hands on your co worker. To end up with a broken bone, potentially lost income and potential disability? I sincerely hope your DH heals well, but what if he doesn't? What if he has trouble with that arm, loss of range of motion, etc? What if he needs PT? This person needs to be held responsible for his actions. Sorry if I seem like I am on a soapbox, but I just feel like your DH should not let this go.

As my DH often says "Boyz R Dumb." I hope he heals quickly and doesn't need surgery. I call it “Testosterone Poisoning” Hoping for quick healing and no loss of income. If he purchased short term disability at work that will likely help. And I’d file a workers comp claim.

Since he was performing his job when he was injured, he should have filed a work comp claim. That should be the first order of business today. The other guy will probably lose his job over this, which, if this is a regular thing that these guys do, is unfortunate.

If he was tackled at work, during work hours, on work property, on his way to a work job site, by a coworker, how is the company not entirely responsible for medical expenses and wages. Isn’t his job supposed to provide safe working conditions?

As the mother of four boys (all grown now), my experience is that men are just more physical. Mine didn't wrestle when they were younger, but they do tend to grapple with each other now as a 'show of strength' thing. It usually follows a long argument over who is tallest by some mere 1/4" measure. Lol.
Your poor husband really got the brunt of his coworker's foolishness. He should report it for worker's comp at least. How the company handles it with the co-worker is our of his hands. Meantime, I hope he heals quickly so you don't have much repercussion from it.

When do they grow out of it? I'm thinking it's when someone suffers a broken bone! Such foolishness and now your DH has to pay the price. Hope it heals quickly and the fellow who caused this is held responsible. Pretty sure he won't be doing that again.

I agree he should file WC ASAP.
Although I will tell you they can be hell to deal with. My husband was attacked by an adult special ed student (taller and heavier) almost three years ago. Everything takes forever to get treatment, they send you to shitty doctors (4 surgeries so far and more to come—he has permanent, worse damage now), they don’t pay the bills, and they miscalculated his WC pay so when he has surgery, we run very short on our budget.
They won’t fix the error. So, when he has surgery and is supposed to be off work, he tells the doc that he wants to go back to work, and goes back a few days later. For all of the surgeries, and a dangerous infection with PICC line, he has only missed about 30 days of work over the last three years. Yes we have a lawyer now. WC hired a big firm to fight every bit of treatment.
If you don’t do WC, you may be able to file under the guy’s homeowner liability insurance.

Was he assaulted or involved in horseplay? Horseplay Ah. Maybe not WC because not part of his job description to horseplay. Try the guy’s homeowner insurance.

This is absolutely a Worker's Comp claim.
1. Dh was at the warehouse where he is employed. He would not have been there otherwise. 2. The other man engaged in horseplay, not Dh, therefore horseplay defense isn't applicable. Are there witnesses?
My Dh was a Worker's Comp defense atty for 27 years. And though the state's differ in how they run Worker's Comp, many things are the same. The two statements I made above are true across the board per Dh.

My DH is a very big guy. No one with a brain is going to try tackling him anywhere unless they want to be flattened themselves. It would be like running into a tree on purpose.

He was injured at work. Did he report it? Workmans Comp case. Respectfully, I disagree that this is a workers comp case. Your husband’s employer wasn’t negligent here. Some asshole coworker was an idiot. I’m not sure the company should be on the hook for that.

Do you disagree because you think they shouldn’t be or because of work experience with WC or in the legal field? Not snark, just looking for more background on your statement.

Try the guy’s homeowner insurance. I would look into this. I know it was horseplay, but the guy who did it needs to have some responsibility in paying for it. That might teach him a real lesson about doing stupid shit.
