crimsoncat05 you can also use an Amazon Fire Stick that plugs into the TV and will stream services...our TV was 1-2 years too old for the latest streaming apps, but the Fire Stick is perfect, and only $40-ish, one-time cost.

But our smart tv is from 2014 so it’s out of date but can’t be updated. You can add a streaming device. I use the cheapest ROKU stick, which is about $25. You could do that, or a Chromecast (It will not play Prime), or a FireStick. You can download the apps on those streaming devices that are hooked to the HDMI port on your TV. You don't need to worry about what apps your Smart TV has then.

Went to streaming last year. In Canada I have Crave with the HBO package. Can get my Star Trek Discovery and other newer shows I want to keep up with. Also have Canada's CBC Gem which is free. I do get access to new shows from CBC also so that's a plus. Other free ones I have is FilmRise and FilmRise Sci-fi. For the free ones, I have to deal with some commercials. Others I have are Acorn (british) BritBox (british) Netflix (though use my son's account) Disney+
I've noticed in Canada we now have RiverTv which is live streams with some not live. It's a paid service with commericals. Um. No Thanks. There's also StackTV which is also a paid service with commericals. Nope. I find I have enough shows to find on the apps that I already want that I have no desire to get these two apps because they want to compete with Bell's Crave app. Also there's enough variety right now for everyone in this house hold to find stuff to watch.
But I do agree that it's starting to get ridiculous with all the streaming apps out there. There are shows on Amazon Prime I am interested in however I would drop another app first before paying for AP. I don't want to paying the same as I did for tv in Canada which can be pricey. And I am so glad I have unlimited interent!

I have Amazon prime because I use amazon a lot--I'm on my kids netflix account. I have a ruko that streams some things. I also have apple tv stick--but don't think it's hooked up now. I've watched one or two shows in the last 8 months since moving to my son's home, so I don't think I use it enough to warrant having any at all! Don't mess with my Pandora though!! That is on when I'm awake. I don't miss TV at all. I haven't had cable since 2012.

I pay for Pandora without commercials Netflix which I watch nightly Amazon Prime which I watch frequently My streaming service is AT & T
Much less than the $250+ I was paying for cable plus internet. I still get my internet through Xfinity because it is the only option. I hope in the future to get rid of that provider as well.

I could have written **GypsyGirl** post. We have too many and I don't even watch tv or movies. Sling (for discovery and fox sports because we've got to have those nascar races we can't get with antenna plus the stupid goldminers and crab fisherman and street racers). Disney+ for Jeremy's girls. Netflix for my DD. Amazon prime for the shipping. And I just cancelled Hulu. Why I had it, I have no idea. I think Jeremy wanted it when it ran a 99¢ a month special and it just continued on and I finally realized that no one was using it. The only thing I get for me is my spotify subscription. I like music. And I listen to music a lot. When I watch tv it is always something I have seen a million times over and I have everything I want on dvd. The dvd player is my craft room. I go in there. And I'll say that when Jeremy is home and awake, the tv is on. This drives me insane. I finally bought him a headset to wear when he is watching explosions, shooting, car chase movies. I am way too sensitive to the sounds in those movies.

Just wanted to update-got our roku thing yesterday and it’s the best $25 we ever spent! Thank you for the tip! You can download the remote onto your phone! It is a great app. I tend to lose remotes, or at least misplace them. I always have my phone! I have the LG TV app on my phone also. Works great when DH falls asleep. I don't have to get out of my chair to get the remote. How lazy am I now!

We cut the cord last year, and we save a ton of money. We currently sub to Amazon Prime (but that's primarily for the shipping, I hardly ever watch content on there); Hulu with commercials; and we pay full year for Disney+ (hubby and I like Star Wars/Marvel; and we have 3 kids 6 years and under, so it's well worth it for us).
We will pick up Netflix or HBO Max for a month if there is something we want to watch, binge through anything else we are interested in, and then drop it. It's working out well, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not having cable.

I cut the cable cord last March. I currently have YouTube tv, Netflix, Prime, Peacock (intro price of around $25 for the first year) HBO Max (free with our AT&T account) and Hulu (shared account with a family member). In November I added Disney+ for the Mandalorian and in December I added Frndly tv for Hallmark Christmas movies. I cancelled both of those services at the end of December. I really like having the flexibility to add and drop streaming services. When Peacock comes up for renewal, I probably won't be renewing it. I just don't watch it.

We have Netflix, Disney+ and Prime as well as Xfinity cable. I did get a free months trial of Acorn so I could watch Line of Duty and then cancelled before I had to pay. I'm fed up with all the English shows I want to see that are on pay services. I did get to watch the Salisbury Poisonings for free but that was the first episode and then you had to pay. However it's now moved from Sundance Now to Sundance so I finally get to watch the rest of it. I don't want to pay more for all these streaming services as usually it's only one or two things that I would want to watch. We pay enough for cable and Prime and sometimes have a hard time finding anything we want to watch.

I just saw a notice when I logged on that my Netflix subscription is going up another $1 a month - we get the lowest one, and it will be $13.99/month in Feb.

I have Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix and Disney. I also get HBO Max free through my cellphone provider. We almost never use Disney and am thinking of cancelling it. Also thinking of getting Brit Box. We have cable, but basic only.

I must be a dinosaur. I still have cable, plus Amazon Prime - for the shipping, and no streaming at all.
I tried the ROKU stick, but it would freeze up all the time. I don't think our internet in the LR was strong enough.

I am way too sensitive to the sounds in those movies. I bought a bluetooth headset for myself when our kid was gaming (video game room is off the living room). Then the kid got a computer because of online learning for school and I wasn't getting any video gaming in myself. So now I hand my husband the headset when I want to video game. He puts the sound WAY up and I could hear his shows even though I would have my gaming headset on. He doesn't like the wired headset he has because it's cheap and the sound it awful. So I had no issues handing him the one I bought for the tv because I made sure the sound would be good on it.

I know there are people that get one app, watch what they want there then cancel and get another app. If you only want to pay for one service at a time, this is a good idea. My Netflix in Canada has Line of Duty. It has a few British content that I'm getting through.

We have hulu, Netflix, prime, Disney, apple TV, and discovery plus.
However, DS is worried about how he will watch the SUPERBOWL!
Any suggestions?

Just had to share-today we cancelled our dish network tv amd internet. Apparently the internet is so outdated it’s called legacy and can never be turned on again. And our satellite receiver is so old we can dispose of it ourselves. We’ve not been able to get a good internet signal for at least 2 years. Feels so good to be done paying for services we can’t use.
