I could, easily. IF I was alone and didn't have to work. But with a family, job, church meetings....blah blah blah.... Well, the world doesn't run on that kind of schedule. Even with family et al I could do it sometimes, but then I'd be dead the next night when I had a church meeting that went until 9:30 and then I had to drive home, etc.

If you study ultradian/circadian rhythms, the absolute worst time to be up is between at 3 am. That is at your mind/body lowest point. If you are up at 3 am you will suffer physiologically all day.
Yes, I could go to bed at 8 pm, no problem.

I often go to bed by 8 pm, but that is my natural sleep cycle. I wake naturally around 4 am (though this week the dogs have been waking my around 3 am, they haven't quite adjusted to daylight savings time yet, lol). Even on weekends. it is my quiet 'me' time, and I am always awake and in a good mood.
I can stay up later for special occasions, but I prefer to go to bed earlier and get up earlier. I like not ever having to wake up to the shrill sound of an alarm clock.
I seem to go into REM sleep (if that is the only time when we dream) easily and frequently. No matter how long I sleep, even if it's a fifteen minute nap, even if I've gone to bed and been awoken during the night, I wake from a dream. I don't know if I have ever woken up from sleep and not been coming out of a dream. So if that's the 'good' sleep I guess I get it fairly easily.
I don't know if I could adjust my sleep habits though if someone told me that I needed to stay up til midnight every night, and sleep later, in order to get a better, healthier sleep. I do this because it is just what my body is comfortable with and what comes naturally. If I had to fight that, I think it might be very stressful and unpleasant.
Maybe adjusting your sleep times wouldn't be helpful if you were still constantly being roused from sleep. Is there a way to keep the pets in another part of the house so as not to disrupt you at night?

I'm usually more of a night owl, but since DH and I have been going to a 6am Crossfit exercise class we've been going to bed normally between 10-10:30pm. That will likely change some nights since basketball season is right around the corner.

My soon to be 6 yr old goes to bed at 7 on school nights. My 9 yr old goes to bed at 7 on non dance nights but 7:45 on dance nights. Both of my girls will sleep 12 hours before waking.
I would love to go to bed at 8 but then I'd have no down time. On good nights I'm in bed by 9/9:30. On bad nights I'm in bed by 10 or 10:30. I sleep until 6 and then get up to help the day go smoothly.

I could and in winter I sometimes do. I'm up quite early and often at work by 6:45 am. I work a long, full day. In the winter we tended to eat dinner earlier and I'm ready for bed at bit earlier.
Last Friday night I fell asleep on the couch at 7:45 pm! Most nights I try to be in bed with lights out by 10:00 pm.

I think the pre-midnight thing is bunk, but I do go to bed by 8:00 every night. Upstairs at 6:45-7:00, 7yo DD in bed and me leaving her room by 7:30, then I go straight to my room and get in bed and read until 8:00. I get up at 4:00 daily, DD gets up between 5:30-6:00. The pets are your real problem (I have 2 cats and sympathize). If it's just the howling making you put them out, get a noise machine, fan, ear plugs, etc. If they'll make messes, well, I don't envy you. Our cats used to sleep in the room w/ us until the 3rd (now deceased) got senile & deaf. We carried on for a while, but in the end, we needed to be more functional than we could be with loud caterwauling in the room waking us up every night.

No way. We have too many activites in the evenings!!
I am usually in bed by 10pm and read until 10:30, before turning out the lights. During the week I like to be asleep no later than 11pm.

Some nights I could, but not every night. I go to bed at 9:00 during the week. I read until I'm sleepy. Sometimes that's 15 minutes and sometimes it's a hour and half.
I get up between 5:00 and 6:00 every morning.

For most of my life I was a night owl and liked to stay up late. In my early 30's I got a job as a cocktail waitress in a bar that stayed open until 5 AM. After many months of trying to sleep in the day, I realized it wasn't for me. Since then I have become more of a morning person. So 8 PM would not be a problem for me .

Yes! I have been doing it for years. And I totally agree that I get the best sleep from 8-11 p.m. or so!!!

I try to turn off the TV and electronics around 8, so that I can be ready for sleep around 9. I can't sleep all night every night, though.
I don't understand why they say the best sleep comes before midnight, though. I feel a lot more rested if I have slept the last few hours before getting up for the day (generally that is around 5 AM). I would much rather get my sleep at the end than sleep several hours before midnight and be awake for hours before I get up. I usually continue to try to sleep.

I might be able to now that I'm getting up at 5:30 for work. It might not work with the teens still being up and making noise (nothing excessive, just regular living). I usually go to bed late but I feel like I'm always tired.

Yes, I could easily and do a few times a week. The only bad thing is my dvr gets filled - then I have to binge watch to make room for more LOL.

No, because I get the same amount of sleep whether I go to bed early or not. We are up at 5:10 a.m. Monday through Friday.
I function well on 5 hours per night, but usually get about 4 hours on weeknights. And it's really hard on me. By Thursday night after work, I am absolutely exhausted.
I use a fitbit and an app that DH downloaded for me, to measure my sleep patterns. I figured by using two different things to do it, if they matched, it would be pretty close.

No way known could I or would I go to sleep that early. That means I would only have 1.5 hours of spare time from when I get home from work to when I go to bed. And what about all the TV shows I enjoy watching?
I go to bed approx 11:30pm and get up anywhere from 6:30 to 7:30am. I'm fine with the amount of sleep that I get and the times that I get it.

Alright it is 7:40 pm right now. I haven't cleaned up from dinner yet and I want to watch some shows I have recorded. There's no way I'll be in bed before 10 pm.

No. I am a night owl. Going to bed early for me feels like I am wasting the only time that I have to spend on myself, doing the things *I* enjoy doing. I usually get 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night, more on the weekends, and I'm good with that amount.

No. I'm a nightowl and always have been, some of my most memorable times have been in the middle of the night I rarely go to bed before midnight. On the weekends, I stay up until about 1 or 2.

No way. There are plenty of nights that we haven't even had dinner by 8:00 p.m. Then again, we have 2 boys still at home, almost 16 and almost 13, just got done with marching band season, so lots going on.

I have gone to bed at 8 pm before. Many many times too but wake up at say 2 or 3 am and then I am awake for the whole next day and I am way overtired by the time 1 pm comes along. I don't think I could go to bed on a regular basis at 8 pm.

I do...almost every day. I'm a morning person and I'm usually up around 5:00 without any alarm. I just naturally get tired around 7:30-8:00 at night. I'm fortunate that my sleep schedule works with the "rest of my life" schedule.

If HE doesn't like differing bedtimes then maybe HE can go to bed when you do. Sorry, but it's a complete dick move to come in later and purposely try to wake someone up just because you don't want them to go to sleep at a different time. DH stays up (and gets up) much later than me, but he comes in for "bedtime" to talk or just hang out together and read, then he gets up and goes on about his evening.

She then shared that this kind of sleep is so important to her family that she puts her child (4 years old) to sleep at 6:45 and then goes to bed by 8pm.
I think the fact that her child is only 4 allows this...wait until her child is older. She will have a much harder time getting in bed by 8:00 LOL
