I didn't have a choice of which vaccine to take and I took what was offered the day of my appointment. I had my second Moderna shot last Thursday morning. I didn't have many side effects after the first shot, just a very slight sore arm at the injection site and very slight headache. I got nervous leading up to the second shot because I'd heard other people's stories about the side effects they had after the second shot. I didn't have any chills, headache, or other side effects that others did. My arm was a little more sore than after the first shot and the next day I felt a little low energy, but I did all my usual activities. My worry beforehand was greatly out of proportion to what I experienced!

I don't think you're asking a dumb question. You've got to remember that this is new to EVERYONE in the world. You're not the only one asking this question. The efficacy of Moderna and Pfizer are pretty close. As far as reactions....some people get them, some people don't. I've heard younger people have a bigger reaction due to a more robust immune system response. No idea if that's true.
DS and I didn't have a choice of vaccines, honestly, I wanted whichever one would get into our arms the fastest. I got Moderna and he got Pfizer. He's going for shot #2 on Sunday and I'm going for shot #2 next Thursday. I did take Friday off just in case.
Just remember, whichever vaccine you choose, you just dramatically lowered your risk of serious infection or death by COVID and that's HUGE!

And all the responses have been so kind and everyone is making me feel a little better about being vaccinated. I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond to my post and share their knowledge. Hesitancy is ok. I said this to Laurie too when she discussed her vaccine situation on the board. I don't want people to feel as though they have to pretend they're completely fine getting the jab even though I personally am. The way I see it, you have questions, doubts and you are reaching out to those who might have the info you're after, the positive encouragement you need. If it's any consolation: whichever mRNA vaccine you get should provide you with extremely similar protection. It's also extremely likely you'll be able to get variant-specific booster shots in the future from either lab regardless of your initial vaccine. They will likely be interchangeable due to their shared technology. At some point, you'll just have to decide. I'm envious of the position you're in, I must say. I still have two more months to wait before I can book an appointment and said appointment will likely be several weeks away. Then I'll have to wait 6 (not 4) weeks to get my second shot. I'll likely not be fully vaccinated before September. And I won't be given a choice in vaccine either (no AstraZeneca or J&J due to my younger age in my country). I hope you understand the privileged and luxurious situation you're in, getting to be picky and having such early access. I wouldn't overthink Moderna vs Pfizer-BioNTech, personally. I've followed Covid-19 and vaccine updates daily for over a year now. These two are my top picks of the vaccines currently available on the market. It's Porsche vs Ferrari. I am sorry that I sound picky and selfish. I would love for us to have shared vaccine and I would be perfectly fine waiting and sharing my vaccine with other countries. I am also fine with getting one dose and waiting for others to allow more people around the world to get vaccinated. I can't help it that I get a choice. I think that's what's making it hard for me. I also can't help that the appts are easily available in my area. I am not trying to show off that I get to pick. I apologize that I sound that way. I felt that this was a safe place to share my concerns. I wouldn't have done it if I knew how selfish I sound. I am truly sorry. It's so hard for me to learn when I need to stop complaining, believe me I drive my family crazy too lately.

It's so hard for me to learn when I need to stop complaining, believe me I drive my family crazy too lately. I'm not sure where you read in my message that there was personal judgment about your human nature. I only mentioned "getting to be picky" in relation to having the actual choice between multiple vaccines. It's a privilege that many around the world are not and will not be given. That's all. You're in the most enviable position there is: early access, choice of vaccine between all those approved by your country. It's a good thing. At some point, it is time to stop overthinking and take advantage of the incredible chance you're given. That's all I was saying. It wasn't a negative, it was definitely a positive. As I've said before, Moderna vs Pfizer-BioNTech is like picking between two very pretty pairs of shoes that are almost exactly the same colour. Similar quality materials, similar comfort, similar beauty. There is nothing splitting these two. You won't get any extra deciding information from waiting longer. Look at the horrendous situation in India and consider the cost of continuing to wait so you can make up your mind. I'm not trying to make you feel bad. I just think most of us desperately waiting for the vaccine would gladly pick either of these straight away. Like today, right now. You're one of the lucky ones. There isn't more scientific data out there to help you split the difference between these 2 mRNA vaccines so it's just a matter of picking one over the other (hey, I'd get both if I could ).

I had more of a reaction to the first dose than the second, while dh and ds had more reaction to their second dose. Drink plenty of water. Like crazy amounts of water. Would iced tea count? I have a hard time with water unless I am really thirsty. But I will try! Thanks for the tip! Yes! Just push fluids!
