I mainly scrap 12x12, both layouts and divided page protectors. But for contained themes with their own albums, like DD and vacations, I scrap 6x8. I’ve been planning to do some 6x8 story albums, using some of AE’s story kits, but that’s on the to-do list. I really like the size and think it will be a fun change.

I'm primarily a 12x12 scrapper, but have done lots of other sizes for different projects. I generally use a 6x8 for my DD album, and have used that size for a couple of other small vacations as well. My childhood albums are 8.5x11 or A4 (I have both and they're close, but not quite the same), and I print any digi pages in books that are 8x8.
I really like the size of 12x12 for fitting lots of stuff on the page, it's just unfortunate it's so unwieldly. I'd love to try 9x12 but I can't justify buying all the stuff in the smaller size until I have a p project in mind.

I just switched from 12x12 to 8.5x11. I also do Project Life in 6x8 size.

I mainly do 12x12 Project Life but I like to add inserts which can be 8.5x11, 6x12, 6x8. I like to do smaller projects too like 4x6 or 3x8 but these are mainly specific projects in smaller albums.

I would love to hear from any European peas scrapping in A4, whether paper, hybrid or digital. I want to try it, but I'm a little apprehensive. For those not familiar with A4, it's the standard paper size in most countries. At 297mm x 210mm it is a taller, skinnier version of US Letter size. My reason for wanting to try it are that binders, cardstock, and page protectors are easily available. You can also print your own patterned paper at home. You can also get photo paper that size, so possibly even print digital layouts at home, although it would be expensive. European Pea here! I can find 8.5x11 size cardstock here but not photo paper so I often just use A4 for everything. What I do with A4 paper is cut the height down to 11 inches. This makes it look a little more balanced to me. It is still slightly narrower than 8.5 but not too far off.

Thank you for answering! It was the balance that was throwing me off. I was thinking of trying digital 9x12 and then scaling it to fit A4. I'll try your method too.
I tried googling but the only pages I found were in French, which I don't speak. I did find the most gorgeous layouts, with very intricate cutouts. Way above my skill level.

Any tips you may have on switching from square formats to A4, or for customising 8.5x11 templates to A4, would be greatly appreciated. Or even any resources you can point me to 😊

I used to do 8.5x11 with 12x12 for vacation albums, but now I am 9x12 with 6x8 for December albums. I always struggled with the square of 12x12 but needed more real estate then 8.5x11 gave me for trips and certain layouts. 9x12 is perfect, it gives me my rectangle shape and enough space to scrap all my pictures. I cannot adequately express my love for the 9x12 size.

I scrapped 8.5x11 until 2011, 2012? Then switched family albums to 12x12 pocket pages. I hate figuring out the design of the page, I'm a slow scrapper, and this is perfect for me. Most pages have one or two empty spots to journal or add something scrappy.
I have holiday/birthday albums in 8.5x11, I put out with decorations. Those are where I do more embellishing.
I recently bought two, 6x8 albums on clearance. Still trying to figure out their purpose. 😕

Or even any resources you can point me to 😊 I find the balance on the rectangle canvas is more difficult to get right, often a really vertical design can make the page feel taller and more narrow than it really is. I often use a design that is largely centred with an embellishment cluster on the top and bottom. Since I use this size for my childhood photos I tend to use smaller size prints, generally nothing larger than 5x3, which I find still gives me a good amount of space for paper and other fun stuff. When it comes to customising templates, I look for places to adjust the white space, which might mean putting a slightly bigger photo mat or paper cluster, or chunkier embellishments, or simply adding a strip of paper to the top and/or bottom of the layout to frame it. I don't have a lot of rectangular layouts in my gallery, and I can't remember if these are A4 or 8.5x11, but they were converted from 12x12 sketches, mostly from sketchtember a couple of years ago. This one I chopped off the white space on the side and added clusters top and bottom. This one I made the cardstock box narrower to better fit with the proportions of the background size. I'm pretty sure this one was a Shimelle class. She had a wider strip where I've used the red which balanced better with her square page.

All of my albums are 12x12 and most of my layouts are 12x12 as well. I do add in all different sized page protectors and PL layouts as well. It allows me to be flexible and adapt to the photos I have, and I think adds a lot of interest in an album.

I scrap 12x12. This last Christmas I made my first Christmas Journal with Shimelle's class and I used a Simple Stories 6x8 album with pocket pages. That was so much fun, I decided to make one to document my daughters 2yr journey straightening her teeth. She loves seeing the progress after 6mos.
