i don't think i would have stopped to bring it up.
however, years ago i was driving past a golf course when a golf ball hit my hood. the guy who hit the ball must have been that powerful or that bad. anyway, i went to the golf course and let them know. the employee said "how do we know it was really a golf ball that did that?". i found a golf ball and put it right up to the dent. fit perfectly and they fixed my car. i think it happened enough that they didn't doubt the claims anymore.

No. To me, that is a situation where it’s hard to prove fault or when the ding actually occurred. With no documentation at all, it’s impossible to show that doing came from that rock and not the door of the car next to you at the store.

I wouldn't have stopped.
If it makes you feel any better dd's Bronco that was about a month old with 1100 miles has been in a body shop for over 2 weeks (still waiting for more parts so going to be awhile yet) with 19K in damages. That accident happened the day after we made the first payment. Ugh...can't wait to see what that does to our premiums.

I checked maybe because it would depend on the location. As you said, traffic was heavy and there was not a safe place to pull over.
On a different note, it's early and I misread the question at first. I thought it said "Would you comfort someone" instead of confront. My brain woke up and I thought - wait a minute - that makes no sense, and went back and read it again. Time for another coffee!

Absolutely not. Dings happens when you are driving on a public road. I get your frustration because it's a new car but you are wrong. If you want it fixed go thru your insurance. I completely agree. It could have happened anywhere and it's no different than a rock on the road being kicked up by another passing vehicle. My husband gets a ding fixed on his windshield about every other month. He is a rock magnet. Unfortunately it's just part of driving. I understand it is frustrating.

I just saw there were more responses. Thanks everyone. Without a doubt I will go through my insurance and have no issue with it. I am not a person that mows a lot, but even I know that you have to either shut the blades down or mow where you are not causing damage, especially when mowing on the side of the road. 🤷♀️
I have read up on it, just for curiosity sake, I do believe there is a difference between a truck/car just kicking up a rock and a person mowing and spitting a rock. But that is neither here nor there and I do understand that most people file under their car insurance, as will I.
However would the situation change if it was a bicyclist or person walking that got hit by that rock and was injured? Would the responsibility fall onto the injured person also? And again there was no doubt where that rock came from.
It is what it is, but he should know that he caused damage and to be careful so that someone doesn’t get hurt. An accident is an accident, but taking responsibility for your actions is also pretty important in my opinion. I am good and life goes on. Hahaha. 😄

I am a person who mows the lawn and this makes zero sense. Well then I accept that I am wrong. Hahaha. 🤷♀️ 😄. It is the same when you plow or snow blow your drive, you can’t cause damage or unsafe conditions for others, at least that is what I was taught. It was not in the middle of the lawn, he was half on the road and half on his lawn. Your state must not be one big on responsibility. 😉😄

I am a person who mows the lawn and this makes zero sense. Yeah I mow roughly 20 acres every week. I don’t turn off my blades every time a car drives by. I do wait until they pass before I mow by the road because they would kill me with how fast people drive here. It’s just safety for myself. I used to try to not get grass on the road for the motorcyclists but I don’t Nymore. It was too much trouble fir how few cycles that come through.

But if you are mowing that strip that is right on the road with a lot of gravel and are sending the clippings and rocks out into the road as people are passing I would call you an irresponsible mower also. Sorry. Send them in towards your property if you need to mow that close to a road with debris on it, the rest of your 20 acres I don’t care. 😉😄 I get most people don’t agree with me and I am fine with that. I own a condo now so I don’t mow. However, when I was growing up we owned a campground I mowed quite a bit and that was the mowing etiquette I was taught. 🤷♀️

Yes. In fact I did several years back. He sprayed the entire length of my car with rocks. $3000 damage, the day after I got it back from a deer running into the same side. I requested his homeowners insurance information and gave it to my insurance rep.
