Question for those in NZ and Australia...
Would it be best to hold on to the cards we are sending until both countries allow USPS deliveries?
How should we handle this? I am afraid to send it out and the card get lost in all the mail not going out.

I am confused as some peas said cards should go through. But there is no definite answer I can find.

The link states priority mail and packages are being held for New Zealand and Australia. I think it’s okay to mail first class letters/cards. I will ask at the post office when I mail mine. *Australia’s service disruption affects Priority Mail International® (PMI), First-Class Package International Service® (FCPIS®), Commercial ePacket (CeP), International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) packets, International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) M-Bags, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) packets, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) M-Bags, and Airmail M-Bags. **New Zealand’s service disruption affects Priority Mail International® (PMI), First-Class Package International Service® (FCPIS®), Commercial ePacket (CeP), International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) packets, International Priority Airmail® (IPA®) M-Bags, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) packets, International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) M-Bags, and Airmail M-Bags.

joblackford asked at her local PO and this is what they said: I was in the post office today and asked about mailing to NZ/Australia and they tested it out for us and said all of the First Class options were unavailable - letters, parcels, everything. Express mailing (very expensive, courier service) is the only option right now and the post office has no idea when that will change. If you do mail the card it will likely be returned to you. Sorry for the bad news She shared this on the SBR side.

Oh no! I have my cards ready to go and was going to mail them this week.
I'm still going to ask when I go to the post office, see if it's changed since then. Bah, humbug.

The situation with mail to NZ/Aus is clear as mud, isn't it? In the NZ media it was reported as everything from USPS would be stopped, only things sent by courier, which seems to include express mail, are being delivered. My post guy didn't know off the top of his head, he had to go into his system, pretended I was sending something and needed First Class Postage, to see what the situation was. He said all the options were blanked out except Express. Unfortunately it's not just a matter of lockdowns being lifted. If I wanted to fly home for Christmas and could find a flight (difficult) I would believe I would have to then win a place in their quarantine hotels (also difficult) and pay through the nose to stay there for 1-2 weeks before I could go visit my vaccinated family. And then (assuming this could magically happen now) we'd still have to stay in Auckland city which currently has an internal border restriction around it. Things may loosen up near year... sometime... and until things loosen up so that people can go to visit there aren't going to be any planes... www.perthnow.com.au/news/coronavirus/border-next-on-nzs-covid-to-do-list-c-4600287 Originally they thought they'd be reopening the borders this coming spring break but that was before the virus started making inroads there. I don't have high hopes, personally. My suggestion is to take photos/scans of the cards you've made and PM them to their recipients and then wait until the mail opens up again to actually send the card. That or ask UPS/FedEx how much they charge to courier it.

FYI, DS helped me mail off my US cards. I will be sending out the Canada, UK, and hopefully Australia cards next month. Decided to go early this year as it took 4 days for a card from my parents to get here and they are 20 min away.

@sunnycamom your card arrived today! DH was a little put out that I didn’t rush to open it when I walked in the door. I waited until I could enjoy it after finishing grocery shopping.
Merry Christmas!!!

Well, I went to the Post Office on my lunch break with a few cards to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. They said they would accept them all!
Now to get the rest done and out the door! Happy holidays!

My post office told me a card to Australia was ok to mail. So, it seems every post office has a different answer. 🤷♀️

All of my cards have gone postal. International included - its been about a week on my international cards and none for Australia and New Zealand have been sent back yet.

I spent my 4 day weekend trying to make 9 “simple/easy” cards. At every step things went sideways. They are still not quite done. I never want to see those damn penguins again.
I mailed off half my cards today (international and both coasts). The rest will be mailed by the 1st. Then I have to start on family cards. This year did not go as planned.

For anyone wondering about the so-called suspension on mail to Australia and NZ, I received my first card a couple of days ago, from a US Pea (in the other card exchange). So thankfully they are getting through after all!

FYI I don't mind that I got 2 cards from a couple of you--but you might want to compare lists since some of us are doing both. There's a few of us on both lists.
