I am not a fan of Paxton in any way, but I don't see what the issue here is. The drawing shows men in an office, starting their day off. The one facing the window, therefore seeing the plane, has dropped his cup (in shock most likely). That's how the day started for many of those killed. Just getting their day going in the office and then the planes hit the towers. Mind explaining to me what I'm not seeing?

First, 8:45 AM, I doubt office workers have a gathering with red cups at the water cooler.
But, I just find the art piece a weird offering of a memorial for the day....so many choices as a way to memorialize the ones who died and he selected this one.

I find it disturbing - people who lost loved ones that day don't need to imagine, graphically, what went on. A tweet like this lacks compassion and empathy.

It’s literally a water cooler and a box of donuts. I mean, look, I despise KP. I think this art choice is…odd. But I don’t think it’s offensive in any way. What does your comment about red cups mean? That because they’re red solo cups it must be alcohol or something?

...That I have never seen red solo cups used in an office...even when we had a party in the office.
Perhaps the 5 offices where I worked were unusual, but we never had huge cups in the office.

Damn, that’s some really shitty artwork. Probably done by one of those people that paints Trump as a muscular savior.

My office currently has red Solo type cups in the kitchen. Granted it’s due to Covid and the building owner removed all the glassware and replaced them with the red cups.

I think the red cups are supposed to be disposable coffee cups. There's a logo on one that makes me think of Tim Hortons.
Regardless, it's in poor taste. Who wants to even think that someone saw the plane coming?

They absolutely look like solo cups to me, which is odd, but not the reason I think the picture is in poor taste.

This sums up the WTF feeling of the artwork:

The cup being held just above the corner of the news paper by the guy on the far right, next to the water cooler. His cup appears to have white/black logo or print on it. FTR, red solo style cups come in a variety of sizes, not just the big beer guzzleing college party size. You can get them in a 12 oz size which would be about right for a cooler cup.

I don't like it. I'm not offended, but I think it is in poor taste.
I get that most people didn't know it was coming, but it seems to joyful and bright to be attached to a tweet like that and to mark the attack.
It seems celebratory for some reason

Those are fingers. I am well aware that solo cups come in a variety of sizes, and although they obviously are used for things other then keg parties it is still an odd choice for an imagined office setting. The fact is that solo cups are usually associated with parties and picnics, not an office. In any event, they are still not the reason I find this "art" in poor taste.

To me this is Paxton's view of 9/11 where, apparently, a number of white men were killed.

Of all the iconic 9/11 images out there to choose from, I'm in the WTF camp with this image. And isn't it polite/appropriate to tag the artist? I'm also calling out the red solo cups. Whoever painted this scene has never worked in a corporate office where the water cooler would not be sitting with a prime window view or stocked with oversized party cups.

I tried to look up more information about this strange painting and all I could find was that Jenelle Evans (Teen Mom) took a lot of heat for posting it last year.

What a weird image to commemorate such a tragic event. In such bad taste IMO, even his words should have been more carefully written - not all 2996 who died were " Americans" either. 19 of those "nearly 3000" were the hijackers, including them in his " nearly3000" is also in bad taste. A further 353 were international victims.

But just another reason to hate this painting, LOL. By the way, in my office "water cooler" our cups were the white Styrofoam (which I also hate and rarely used if I could help it). One of the things I remember when 9/11 first happened was the sheer amount of coverage about the terrorists, watching them in airport footage, trying to figure out who they were. I realized yesterday, I couldn't remember any of their names, but the names I really remembered we of the heroes on Flight 93 (ie, Todd Beamer). I was surprised that more people were not interviewed from the Pentagon or Flight 93 in PA. The man who was interviewed for the Pentagon portion, Bill Toti, is actually my friend's BIL. I didn't realize he was there, on scene, treating people.

I just think it's bad taste to give a rough figure rather than check exactly how many innocent people were killed - I guess he was too lazy to check!
