He should know - everything he runs ends up going under after a few years.

Honestly, I don’t think he’s wrong, though maybe not on the timeline. Empires rise and fall and so do powerful countries. I think he and his followers are doing more to hasten the demise of the US than Uncle Joe is, but I have no expectation that my kids and grandkids will grow up in a peaceful, prosperous USA. I agree and I’m sad, tired and scared. I hate that so many people learned a history that taught them America was exempt from from authoritarianism, turmoil, collapse, etc. because we’re so so special and “exceptional.” Our descent into civil war is so fucking textbook sometimes I am confused how so many people really believe we will always be on top. The teaching of American exceptionalism - including hero-worship of the founding fathers - should be what's banned from our curriculum. It's killing us. We can teach the good along with the not so good, work on solving our problems, and end up with a much healthier country. The only way in which we're particularly exceptional at this point is that we're large and wealthy. Our military was once able to lead the charge to keep the free world safe, but as we've seen since Vietnam, we cannot win wars the way they're fought today. We can only endlessly fight.

Well, he might be right…. He laid the groundwork for it. ...and he and his minions are working on ending America as fast and hard as they can.

And even worse is that there are a whole lot of people out there who don't just want a Republican to be president, they want HIM. I don't get it. I wish I knew what has drawn people to him they way they are. I’m not sure he wants the actual job. He just wants everything that goes along with it - the attention and the power. I’m holding out hope that his health declines enough, enough people desert him or something else happens and he decides not to run again. I’m losing hope that he will land in jail, but that would be the best case scenario. After Jan 6, it’s incomprehensible to me why people continue to support him. Twitter banning him was one of the best things that happened. Speaking of him going to jail, I’m kind of surprised that there hasn’t been much of anything being reported on how the multiple investigations involving Trump have been progressing. Back in December and January it seemed like there was a lot more being said about that, and now nothing. Nothing would make me happier than seeing him in a prison jumpsuit. After all, orange *is* his color! And I agree with you 100% that Twitter and Facebook banning him was the best thing that could have happened. I swear my blood pressure must have gone down at least 25% after he lost the ability to tweet and post his rants.

Oh, that is going to be his campaign strategy. Tell the country that if they don't vote for him, our country will no longer exist. “I alone can fix it.” That’s his thing. Total bullshit, of course. Yes it is. However, I believe he alone can destroy it. His relentless rhetoric and his narcissism are his weapons.

I will say this: The America we immigrated to in the early 1980's and the America we experienced after 9/11 is not the America we are living in today. Not to pick on you, but I think a lot of people of color would disagree. I had friends who were frightened last week during the memorials because they remember what happened to be people who “looked Muslim” after 9/11. And not that any decade has been great for my people, but the 80s under Reagan weren’t stellar. Three days ago I read a tweet from a then (on 9/11/2001) eighteen year old who was asked by her professor to leave class so they (him and the rest of "more American" class, aka white) could grieve more comfortably and openly. I guess her skin was a bit too brown for comfort. She ended with the 9/11 "motto" I'll "Never Forget".

His relentless rhetoric and his narcissism are his weapons. And the gullibility of a third of Americans is the ammo.

Former running again in 2024 and possibly winning scares me. But someone like DeSantis or Hawley running scares me even more. Someone more polished and less offensive but just as dangerous, authoritarian and all about consolidating and maintaining power for the Republicans. I think DeSantis has f*cked up Covid so badly in Florida, his chances might not be very good on a national stage. And Abbott is a criminal and I think unlikely to get support outside of Texas. Larry Elder has shown his true colors. Maybe some conservative talk show host that hasn't died of Covid? I hate them but wonder if someone like Sean Hannity or Tucker Carlson could win the Republican nomination?

He talks their language. They think he really cares about them. They cannot see any of his flaws. They hate the libs and POC, any color at all... They do see his flaws. The flaws are a feature, not a bug.

Don’t they have high approval ratings? They scare me as I think they could do a lot of damage. I see Republicans here saying they want to move there because they like them so I don’t know at this point.

There's a large segment of the GOP base who will vote R because "pro-life" and "my guns". And also, because the cruelty is the point. Josh Hawley needs to be stopped in his tracks along with any other authoritarian wannabe. It's unfortunate that his all American looks and quick tongue will put him on 2nd base politically.

Abbott’s approvals are low, but he also has people disliking him on two sides - liberals and moderates to the left, and the whack job fringe on the far right. Those groups are not coming together to vote for a common candidate in any scenario. Meanwhile, the Democrats still don’t have a solid candidate for Governor.

...... Not all things are as they seem... Catholic priest speaks: Father Edward Beck spoke to CNN on Sunday to explain that the idea by Catholic bishops to punish pro-choice Democrats isn't going over very well with people who are for or against a woman's right to choose. *** "I had mass this morning, a few of them actually, and unsolicited, I can't tell you how many people came up to me and were really upset about this," said Father Beck. "I mean, across the political spectrum. And basically what they were saying was, you had a former president who checked none of the 'life issue' boxes for the Catholic church except that he said he would appoint Supreme Court justices that could overturn Roe v. Wade. And that's all that seemed to matter." He also recalled Trump's photo-op he did with the Bible after peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters were tear-gassed in Lafayette Square. He also recalled the times in which Trump appeared to make fun of Pope Francis. ** And then you have Joe Biden, a practicing Catholic, who is pro-choice, although he says he's personally opposed to abortion, and people are talking about denying him communion," Father Beck continued. "The reception of communion — people see it as really based in hypocrisy. I can't tell you, some said this is the final straw for them. If the bishops go ahead with that, that's it for them." www.rawstory.com/joe-biden-catholic-bishops-hypocrisy/*** Josh Hawley has problems at home in MO! On Thursday, The Kansas City Star editorial board scorched Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) for demanding President Joe Biden resign over the Afghanistan withdrawal, calling it "pure theatrics" and noting the senator's own efforts to trash the rule of law. *** Let the record show what Hawley desperately wants us to forget: He was an enthusiastic supporter of abandoning Afghanistan — not on Aug. 30, when the final troops departed, but months earlier, in May," wrote the board. "'President Biden should withdraw troops in Afghanistan by May 1, as the Trump administration planned, but better late than never,' he tweeted on April 13. 'It's time for this forever war to end.' Apparently, Hawley's imitation of a peacenik has a sell-by date, which is whenever the Missouri Republican decides there are partisan points to be made." *** Missouri's best-known insurrectionist, Sen. Josh Hawley, is still trying to accomplish what he could not pull off with his power-to-the-rioters raised fist on Jan 6," wrote the board, a cutting jab at Hawley's infamous role in the Capitol attack. "Nothing about this call for mass resignations is serious. Yet Missourians should never forget Hawley's attempt to put his own ambition ahead of the security of the United States," concluded the board. "And the House select committee investigating the insurrection at the Capitol should deeply investigate Hawley's role in the events of that awful day. When our democracy itself was under attack, he stood with those attempting to bring it down." www.rawstory.com/josh-hawley-2655039223/
