So his appointment went well. Dr had good news/bad news.
The good news is that the pathology report didn't find any "bad" cells in the fluid that was drained. (Although he did say that doesn't mean there aren't any at all.)
That was the first thing he told us, so my stomach unknotted a bit and I could focus on the rest.
The bad news is that he doesn't know where the fluid is coming from, and there is still so much fluid in his lung that he can't see what the mass is.
Got very annoyed at the hospital where he went and had the fluid drained because 1. The person draining the fluid did not drain all the fluid that was there. Dr. said that they could have taken another 1 to 2 liters off. And
2. They outright lied to me. His pulmonologist told me that he wanted them to do a CT scan after the fluid was drained so he could see the lung more clearly without the fluid.
After they brought him to the observation room after the procedure i specifically asked about the CT scan and was told "oh they did it before" and I told them the doctor wanted it after and it should be in the order. I even explained the reasoning rhe doctor had told me and they said it made sense. So the one person said they would call and verify with the doctor.
I asked repeatedly and was told they were looking into it, until finally they told me "they got the pictures the doctor wanted". Dr. was not happy that they outright lied to me.
So now Dr. wants to redo the thorocentesis to drain more fluid and get a CT scan afterwards so he can see the mass and get an idea of size and shape.
After that the doctor said he may refer Dad to a thoracic surgeon who might be able to figure out where the fluid is coming from. Although when he stated talking about putting a camera down into the lung I could see Dad's body language change to hell no.
So for now we are back to square one as far as a diagnosis, but have a glimmer of hope that webare not at worst case scenario at the moment.
I want you all to know that I truly appreciate all of the kind words and positive thoughts. Thanks to the pandemic my bubble shrank even more and I no longer have much of a support network.
It was so comforting going into that appointment knowing the Peas were in our corner. This is why I never underestimate the power of (as DH calls y'all) The Mighty Peas.
Thank you again & P-LAM (Pea love and mine)
OP:
I could really use the collective power of the Peas today.
My dad has a follow up with the pulmonologist this afternoon. We saw him two weeks ago because he still had some fluid build up in his lung from when he has pneumonia earlier this summer.
The Dr. looked at his CT scans and chest xray and saw a mass that he says is "most likely malignant" but would have to have the fluid drained before he could get an accurate view of the size etc.
So last Wednesday we went and they drained 1200 ccs of fluid off of his one lung. He started breathing better, thankfully.
So today we go to hear (in all likelihood) the doctor say it is a malignant tumor.
Dad turns 94 in two weeks, so I know he is not going to be willing to fight it and will just raise his hands and say ok. He doesn't want to be a burden on me.
I know it is his life to live and as hard as it will be to accept I know that I have to accept whatever decision he makes.
So I am asking for prayers to whatever deity you choose or positive vibes sent to the universe that I have the strength to get through today and whatever is coming in the next few months.
Dad is only allowed one person with him at the appointment, so my DH cannot be there. I am going to face time in in so he can hear what the doctor says, because I am sure at some point I will not be able to takenit all in.
Thank you peas.
