I have tried so many times, but cannot figure out how to use the search function on this board. I get so frustrated trying. But I will look at reviews for everything everyone has mentioned and go from there. I can't justify spending a lot as I haven't scrapbooked in so long. But hopefully I can find something for around $150 that works to print stuff for scrapbooking and labels. [Quote\] _----------------- Sorry messed up the quote! Just to clarify none of the cricut or Silhouette machines print. They are cutting machines. I think you can replace the blade with a pen/marker but it is different from printing. I believe you can print on a regular printer and the use a machine to cut. But I have an ancient Cricut expressions so will let others share about that. When I'm ready to upgrade I'll be getting a silhouette machine. Cricut has done way too many shady things for me to reinvest. I didn’t and don’t see the word print in the OP. It doesn’t “print” but can draw with a pen. Cut and print requires a printer. If you want to cut labels snd draw some text you can go that. I have never used that feature. When I read this I was thinking you wanted to cut the actual letters out of vinyl to make your labels and paper for your scrapbooks. I cut some labels out of chalkboard vinyl and then used a white pen to label by hand.

I throw a wrench into the conversation and recommend a Silhouette model. The software is considered easier to use and more powerful. The software is free to download and you can try it out before buying. The software can also be used offline and doesn’t require a subscription. There are TONS of threads about this on the scrapbooking board—just do a search. YEP YEP YEP. I'd recommend a Cameo over a Cricut ANY day! Silhouette customer service is AMAZING! They make things for old machines too! You can get stuff for the original Cameo and they're on the 4th gen. I use a Maker AND a Cameo 3. The Maker is easier to do print and cut. If you want to design your own images, Cameo is the way to go. I dislike Design Space (Cricut) and Studio (Silhouette) so I use Sure Cuts A Lot. With SCAL, you can design your own SVG files, import SVG files, and you own your images. I believe the same is true for Studio (I used SCAL with my cricut Personal for many years before jumping the cricut ship). If you go with Cricut, you do NOT own your images and they live on the cricut servers. I've heard there's a way around that but haven't bothered. SCAL cuts directly to the Cameo machines. You CAN use it with the Maker but you have to export from SCAL and import to Design Space. It's a pain in the butt. You can purchase cheaper blades for the cameo- CB09. You MUST use cricut branded blades with the Maker (and any other cricut machines). There was rumor that Cricut was going to charge a monthly/yearly fee to use their software. Not sure if they backtracked on that one or not. There was a huge uproar when they published that. Studio has 3 different levels. The basic level is free.

Can I post my Cricut question here too please? I have one of the first Cricuts from when I scrapbooked ages ago. My mother bought my dd an Explore 2 on Black Friday. She may be interested in making t shirts. I saw the Easy Press. Is that worth buying? I was looking at the 9x9 one but would I regret not getting the bigger 12x10? Also any feedback on the mug maker thing? I think I would find that neat but wanted to know what ya'll thought. Thank you Get a real heat press! I have a fancierstudio 15x15 clamshell and it's been great. I even bought a second one for the students to use at school!

3. I think the mug press is a waste of money, how many mugs does a person need? I agree

I didn't know you had to have a subscription for the cricut. Now I don't know if this will be worth it for me. I am on a tight budget for the next few years.
As another mentioned, you don’t use a digital cutter to print. You do that with a regular printer. A digital cutter can cut around shapes—you print out the design and it has registration marks that the digital cutter reads to know where to cut. If you only want to spend $150, look for a used cutter. That way, you will have a lot less invested into the cutter before you decide if it’s for you. It’s not for everyone. Also make sure that your computer is new enough to power one of the newer cutters. Silhouette America has the requirements on their website.

I think I will forget about getting a cricut for this year. It seems too complicated for me. I am technology challenged, my husband's 96 yr. old aunt is better with computer stuff than I am! Haha I will watch you tube videos and look at my friend's cricut. That way if it's too complicated for me, I am not wasting money. I was clueless about it!

Thanks so much for all the tips and info. I really appreciate it! I think I will hold off on getting one this year. I think it would be too complicated for me to use. I am tech challenged, and my up close vision is pretty bad. My friend/neighbor has a cricut, so I will watch her use her's and if I like it, I may reconsider for next year's holiday sales. If I hadn't gotten all these wonderful tips, i would have gotten into something that I may not have been able to learn how to use. Also, I didn't know you had to have a subscription, but my friend said that it's $10 a month for hers. But hopefully I can learn and buy one next year! I miss scrapbooking so much!

I’ve been using the very old Cricut personal electronic cutter with software from Sure Cuts a Lot that allows me to use any font on my computer, or any SVG. My DH asked if I wanted to upgrade for Christmas so we got a new Silhouette Cameo. Looking forward to learning how to use it!

I also have a very old one that sat in a box for yeeeeeears until I busted it out in 2019 and use my old laptop that still has SCAL on it.
I'm also fortunate to have a vinyl store one block from my house! They were shipping only for a long time, but opened a store!

There is no need for a cutter for scrapbooking. I have an old one that a rarely use and when I do use it is usually for craft projects vs scrapbooking. So don't let that stop you from getting back into scrapbooking.

I just ordered the Air Explore 2. I think Joann Fabrics has the best price at $149 with a bunch of stuff included. I found it for the same price but without all the sample vinyl and tools, I seriously debated between that and the Maker which cuts even more things but decided that I am unlikely to be cutting or engraving very often. I ordered it on Nov 27. It should be here by Dec 3, faster than I expected. Was kicking myself for being indecisive between the two machines (and continually checking prices elsewhere) because I could have picked it up in store if I ordered it when I first saw the ad I saw it for $169, but couldn't find the $149 cricut. Maybe they are sold out? Do you know if the $169 is the one with the extras? I was also looking at Cricut explore Air 2 at JoAnn's. It was the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale apparently. The $169 was the machine without the bundle. The bundle I bought with the machine is now something like $225! (Give or take… off the top of my head. I was surprised to see how much more it was!)
