My reading year finished strongly with 2 great Australian authors...often I'm not a fan of Australian authors because they try too be too quirky and "aussie" but both books avoided that. Devotion by Hannah Kent has some of the most beautiful lyrical writing that I have ever read, especially her descriptions of nature. Set in 1836 and the story of a group of Old Lutherns who make the long journey to Australia.
Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy, about reintroducing wolves into the Scottish highlands. Both are heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure.

my3freaks , stay tuned for my review of The Trees next week. pjaye , Once There Were Wolves had such gorgeous writing. Definitely one of my top-five reads of the year. Lisa Added: I almost forgot. Barnes and Noble has 50% off all hardbacks. It continues at least through tomorrow, 12/29. I will probably go back and buy a couple more books because #deals. Conveniently, my B&N is right next to Bath & Body Works. Just take all my money, people.

Comfort & Joy
By Kristin Hannah I needed to squeeze in something small to be sure I can finish by January 1 so I can get the Goodreads reading challenge credit. I’m proud to say I’ve read 63 books this year and with the use of my library, the town next door’s library, several Little Free libraries and the state library Kindle downloads have only bought ONE of those books!

I just finished book #100 for the year completing my Goodreads challenge. It was a good one that was recommended here recently - This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay. 4/5 stars.

And another 5 star read...I had a fairly mediocre reading year, but it looks like all the good ones decided to appear right at the end. These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant. A man raising his 8yo daughter off the grid in the Mountains and we gradually learn why. With an ending I was not prepared for.

Definitely going to the top of my TBR pile.

Had a lot of time off this week so I read “Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman. I really enjoyed this one. Easy read that kept me engaged.
Next was “The People We Keep” by Allison Larkin. I liked this one also, but the ending left me a little bleh. I would have liked to see a little more introspection on the protagonists part.
I just started reading “The Lager Queen of Minnesota” by J. Ryan Stradal. Being from Minnesota this one caught my eye. Early on there were some popular local references, but I can’t agree that Betty’s Pies are the best in Minnesota. They were good, but nothing spectacular to me.

Anxious People is now a series on Netflix. It just came out on December 29th. 6 Episodes. I have not seen it yet. UPDATE: Just tried to stream and it seems to be only in Swedish.
