I would love to get back into needlepoint but it’s so expensive! I saw a darling kitty needlepoint kit but it was $100 with floss. I’m talking it was 3x5 inches so not big at all. I also like embroidery so maybe need to search for kits.

Needlepoint is expensive - and you have to add in the cost of finishing if you don't do that yourself. It's why I am signed up for a needlepoint finishing class in February. You might check thrift stores near you. I've found some top name kits and canvases for a fraction of the cost in the past. Also, buying the canvas and threads/yarns separate can help with the cost. You are able to use less expensive threads that way. Designing/painting your own canvas is another option to keep costs down. There is an online needlepoint ornament finishing class that I've heard good things about - Abigail Cecile Needlepoint Finishing . It is a little pricey, but does come with supplies to finish an ornament.

Embroidery and embellishment with Denise Hedrick on FB.
She’s offering a free beginner online class now. I signed up last year but never did it. I’m actually getting the stuff together to do this one.

Check out the free online course for beginner's by Denise Hendrick - Beginning Hand Embroidery . She is about to start a free 10-week online class that teaches 12 stitches. She does this annually. She also has a Facebook group under Romantic Recollections. The thread brands I use tend to be DMC, Valdani, Anchor, in both 6-strand cotton or Perle cotton, depending on the design. This is the same one I signed up for.

Have done some embroidery/needlepoint, but mostly do cross stitch as I find that more relaxing (started when I was 4). I love to do stitch alongs and always have a few projects going at one time. Thanks to all of you for some of these resources! I can't wait to look into them!

but mostly do cross stitch as I find that more relaxing Do you do counted or stamped cross stitch? My youngest sister does beautiful counted cross stitch and says the same thing about it being relaxing. Based on the size of the box of finished projects she sent me this year to finish for her, she must be very relaxed! ![](http://stevengale.smugmug.com/Other/Peasmilies/i-v9P6jMF/0/O/laugh.gif) In return for finishing, I pick out projects and she makes them for me. The most recent ones were these by SatsumaStreet - San Francisco & Paris.

I need a new hobby and am very interested in this. Is embroidery or cross stitch easier for a beginner? Any kit recommendations?

I have been on Pinterest, Google and Facebook groups now for days lol. I also just picked this book up at Joann’s this morning ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211231/a4d8100a34bbadebba4852ecc1d37fff.jpg) I have some supplies already in my stash, but I did get some more to go with. I started one of my kits and I’m pleasantly surprised how much it’s coming back to me from when I was younger.
