Our board flipped in November so that 4 NO MASK candidates under the heading "parental choice" were put in the majority of our school board. Within hours of their swearing in they had walked back the mandatory masks mandate and allowed for parental choice and mask usage dropped. Teachers start back today, students tomorrow. It will be a game everyday of where to cover and how to cover. our school district is also part of a county that decided they didn't like the health department telling them that people should wear masks and so the county set up a new health department (with no medical doctors on board mind you) that is a joke. We are not safe in this area and I don't see any school closures with all of the people who don't believe that COVID is real sitting at the levels they are. Even the school district is not allowed to use the legitimate health department anymore so numbers and reporting are sketchy.

Our province cancelled classes for the first week back. Teachers are meant to go in and review / implement stricter covid protocols. Kids go back the following week. My girls get an extra week every year anyway so we have another week.

Again Skellinton - apologies - I've grown bitter to those "who can't be vaccinated" and responding accordingly - layer on my kid's university announcing another week of "remote" aka bullshit learning and I'm kinda done - I'm living in a world of people willfully choosing to be unvaccinated and a bunch of young adults who've had their lives turned upside down for years to protect the assholes who can't be bothered - and I'm done and kinda a bitch about it. Apologies to everyone struggling with a child who's under 5 and truly can't be vaccinated. The rest of you - go jump off a fucking cliff and save us from waiting for you to die of covid. I get this. I’ve grown a bit bitter too. Of the lame excuses, not grounded in reality, only in fearmongering perpetuated daily by social media. Of the religious exemptions granted for people who I know aren’t the least bit religious themselves. Ugh. Just ugh.

My sister, a teacher, fully vaccinated since March has tested positive for Covid. A bad cold is what she describes which sounds very much like Omicron . . . her DH and DS also tested positive. So masking or not, vaccinated or not, IT WILL GO THROUGH OUR POPULATION, very similar to the flu and seasonal cold. The variants may be more transmissible, but in general are much less deadly. At this juncture, I think we are all over the mandates, masks, no masks, vaccines, no vaccines, and so on. If I’m over anything, I’m over people. Especially people who whine about mandates, but want schools and childcare facilities open.

My kids go to the largest district in San Antonio, today they have 1,260 staff members out, 926 of those are teachers and they could only fill 58% with substitutes. According to the local news. Yay.

I'm still coughing but was told I can come back since I was sick 12/24 and my at home rapid was positive 12/28 with a PCR positive 12/29. Only 5 days quarantine with 5 additional days strictly masked when not at home.

Holy crap! Wonder how things are going to progress this week. Good luck! After I posted this I went and looked to see what the percentage is, it's approximately 10% out. I don't know what a normal percentage would be, but 400 or so teachers not being covered is a little concerning. Doesn't give me much hope for what the end of the week will look like. And our school district changed nothing over the break. Still pushing for vaccines, masks not mandated, etc.

The bible is remarkably silent about vaccines in fact. (that's a joke...since obviously vaccines didn't exist when the bible was written...) -- Now that's just for people whose holy book is the Jewish or Christian bible. I can't speak for other faiths. But honestly, I suspect that the ones in this country who are screaming for a religious exemption are not Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, or anything else like that. I just bet they're some brand of Christianity.

I’m willing to bet that they are much more familiar with what their favorite Fox anchors have to say than with what the Bible actually does say. On a wide variety of topics.

Even though the Pope told everyone to get vaccinated to protect human life. It's not about religion.

Even Christian Science, which eschews a lot of medical interventions.

Gotta love when a parent calls to tell us they’re positive, gets their child’s return date then turn around and ask Facebook hoping we….were wrong? Lied to her? Make shit up because we just love kids being out of school for weeks?
Why did she want him to be at school? Because she’s sick and doesn’t want to help him with schoolwork while sick 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Man it is hard to bite my tongue some days.

Hey maybe teachers will finally get paid what they are worth in this country!
In my state, some of the school districts have doubled their previous substitute teacher pay, from $150 to $300/day. I retired too early!

Well, we didn't even make it until noon without a teacher testing positive. One of our morning teachers who is with the old kids before school and prek for 45 minutes tested positive when she went home. She sounded terrible this morning, and so our director asked her to get tested before she came back. It was positive. The older kids she was around are all vaxxed so no quarantine. For some reason we are not requiring prek kids to quarantine either, not sure why, but at least I am not unemployed for 10 days. It does make it short staffed in morning and after school through. If one more teacher gets it we might have to shut down our after care program.

Still haven’t figured out/ascertained through gossip what prompted a handful of kids to be isolated and sent home after an hour of school this morning, but one of the moms who came to pick up was pretty unhappy. Could hear her shouting at the poor receptionist from my room.

Fortunately we’re not allowing parents in the building so any yelling is either at the door (easy to close in their face) or on the phone (easy to hang up). Secretaries are not paid enough to put up with that shit, and I have no problem shutting it down.

The poor receptionists don’t deserve that at all. Our reception office is oddly located at the other end of the hallway from the main admin office, so they actually have to call admin for help in those cases. Fortunately this woman simmered down when one of the other teachers and I stuck our heads out of our doors and looked at her like WTF?!

Most likely the mom just needed to vent and feel heard but it’s great that you and another teacher were there to witness her outburst and get her calm her ass down. I’m sure your receptionist was very grateful.
