Not surprising, Elaine. Our news (ALL OF IT) is horrible these days about reporting real news. You have to watch the BBC (although my DIL, a political science university professor says Reuters is pretty good).
I'm praying for those people. God be with them and get them all out safely.

I hadn't heard anything about who the hostage taker was in the first reports. That they are negotiating gives me hope that the hostages will be safely rescued.  |

This is super local to me (like within a few blocks).
The local news is saying they purposely aren’t releasing many details/doing any live streaming of the scene, for the safety of everyone involved.
I mean, it makes sense they wouldn’t release much info, if the police decide to make a move, the criminal shouldn’t get advanced warning from social media.

Hopefully, that means that in subsequent discussions with him or or their information gathering that they have determined that there aren’t any explosives that would endanger the surrounding community. |

Yes, they initially evacuated some houses (not mine) because he was saying he had multiple bombs. The synagogue is very much just in a neighborhood. There’s an elementary school across the street and houses all around. They’re using the school parking lot as a staging area for police and are asking media to stay in the far side of the lot. |

One of my friends just made a beautiful post about Rabbi Charlie.
She talked about how her first grader was being bullied and made fun of at school for being Jewish and she took him to Rabbi Charlie and he was so kind and understanding and was able to help her child through that time.
The Rabbi is so young and kind and good with kids and just very active in the community.
A beautiful representation of living his faith out in the world.
Sorry, just realized this is a bit rambly and repetitive. I just really hate this situation.

So this is about a mile and a half from my home, my son would practice baseball across the street from CBI in a church baseball field. I was actually out running errands and saw the police come flying back towards the CBI and then on my way home, I have to turn on the street it’s on to get home and saw the police had the street blocked - I could see another car blocking the road farther down. I knew it had to be some kind of situation and my heart sunk when I saw the news. My kids attend/attended a local Christian school and this Rabbi actually partners with our school to help with a Worldviews class. He’s super well respected, kind, and my prayers are that his character will some how help this end peacefully.
It’s been a long day in Colleyville - heavy hearts here.
I’ll add I am on several Colleyville and local FB groups, and lots of conversation was going on before it hit the national news. I clicked a link early on that went to the live service - it was streaming on FB for probably 3+ hours. I did not know that was what I was clicking on and it was horrifying to literally hear the conversation and words of the terrorist. I’ve stayed off media other than to keep up with any major updates because it becomes too overwhelming to think this is in my neighborhood. Hate and hurt are driving so much ugliness right now.
