Yes. The urgent cares around here have you wait in your car until they are ready for you.

I intensely dislike Urgent Care, but, if you cant wait for your Dr to have an opening then you kind if have to go there

Only if I knew I would be seen by a physician and not a NP or PA.
Locally, I would expect any urgent care to be following the same procedures we follow in the hospital. My only concern would be who is actually staffing it.

Urgent care is fine with me Husband had to go to the ER during the first Fall of covid. I dropped him off at the door and was not allowed in until the doctor had some answers. He ended up staying in the hospital for several days and I was the only one allowed in to see him.
The way the ER visit was handled is the same the urgent care is handled. You don't get out of the car until the doctor is ready to see you. You are called on the phone or you wait standing outside, six feet apart, until the doctor can see you. Your phone number is taken at the door while you are still outside. Trust me, they have protocols to handle it all for urgent care as well as ER. The medical profession does not want to spread more covid around.
In the ER there was nobody in the waiting area at all. Usually there is at least fifty people with their families, dogs, lunches and more. Used to be if you wanted to avoid the crowd, you arrived in an ambulance and those guys want their stretchers back so they can leave. The time or two husband rode an ambulance, was not real fun, but you get off loaded into a examination room, not the waiting area.

I had to take my son to urgent care last month. Because the wait was 2-3 hours, they let us register and then called us when we were next up. I was hesitant, but thought they handled it well.

Yes, because at my Dr's urgent care, the urgent care for covid cases are in a completely separate temporary building. I was so relieved to find this out when I showed up. Grateful to live in an area with amazing healthcare. Although I do know the US system is not the best and certainly not cheap, the care I receive is amazing.

The Urgent Care we use when necessary has a larger waiting room than our primary doctor’s office and it’s usually less crowded. So, yes. Absolutely.

Yes. I had to attend urgent care a few weeks ago with an achilles tendon injury, it was really quiet and I was in and out within an hour having seen a doctor and a physiotherapist. I felt completely safe the whole time I was there, everyone was masked, the waiting area was spotless and honestly I was way too occupied with the agony in my leg to really think about anything else.

I went to an urgent care a month ago, when the Omicron numbers were bad -- I had an infected cut that clearly needed more attention than drugstore antibiotic ointment. I was a bit nervous about going in, but I did it, and I was the only person (other than medical personnel) in any space -- they had the appointments staggered so that you would come into an empty waiting room, check in, and get whisked to an exam room. It was very comfortable and comforting, and I think it is safe to say, four weeks out, that I did not contract COVID.

I went back in January because I had a sinus infection and my doctor was out I’ll and not expected back until the following week. Masks were mandatory but of course they was one exception to the rule. I told the receptionist I was going to wait in my car until it was my turn. Luckily I was in and out quickly.

FWIW--Our ophthalmologist had all the spacing in the initial waiting room. Chairs blocked, spacing emphasized etc. (masks required) However, after DH's eyes were dilated he was put into a second waiting room with no spacing, all patients elbow to elbow. That was on a Thursday and on Saturday PM DH had a fever and tested positive for covid. I have an appointment in March--and I will NOT wait in the second room. I will insist on going out in the hall rather than sit near someone with no spacing. There is no way to prove that is where he contracted covid, but it was the only place he had been to get the exposure. This is why I’ve avoided taking DD to get her eyes checked. For kids it’s a two hour appointment and there’s no way I’d be stuck in that situation for that long. I did go to an orthopedic urgent care place a couple months ago after I hurt my hand and have had to go back a couple times since. But it hasn’t ever been crowded and everyone there was widely spaced out, masked, etc. I’ve also taken DD to a Covid vaccination clinic twice for her shots but that was all by appointment and there were limited people there, everyone was distanced and masked, etc. We’ve also had her in a couple times to the orthodontist and to an oral surgeon a couple times in the last few months.
