We call it ‘trimming’ with the weed whacker. I trim and my DH mows. I’ve heard many people call it weed whacking though.

We call it trimming. I do the mowing, raking and most of the yardwork and my husband maintains the flower gardens and planting. I would do the trimming but I cannot get the hang of that trimmer we have. I have tried so many times and just cannot do it. So he reluctantly does it. If I wasn't so lazy I would actually shop around for a trimmer that I could figure out how to use.

I've only ever known it as whipper-snipping, although my grandmother, for reasons known only to her, always called the device a whipple-snipple.

Well you live and learn, don’t you?! Weed whacking sounds vaguely unsavoury. Rofl! I concur with my fellow Brits, we strim with a strimmer.

I had to look up what you meant but with that machine I call it strimming, with a strimmer. If I'm pulling them out by hand it's just weeding. I’m the same as gar. Strimming.

I use eating. The word whacking has an entirely different connection to it.

Weed whacker & weed eater are 2 different tools?
Weed wacker - hand held trimmer with a string, or blade for trimming weeds
Weed eater a flail mower that appears to ‘consume’ weeds ( I’ve also heard a bush hog referred to as weed eater but that’s not right )

Whipper Snipper sounds familiar. I think my parents called their first one that. I don't know if it actually said that on the product. (Grew up in Ohio.) I think later we usually said weed whacker.

Never heard the term "weed-eating" or "weed-eater." They are "weed whackers" here (northeast, NY Metro area)

We’ve never found one of those particular tools that we’ve liked, but I call them “weed whackers”.

We call the tool a Whipper Snipper, and the task is referred to as Whipper Snippering. I have also heard it called weed whacking, but that's not as common.
