When my son got married, DIL just let her mom and me choose dresses in which we felt good. It was hard to find a dress I liked. It would have been awful to be restricted to a specific color. Her mom actually had to change dresses not long before the wedding. My daughter is getting married in August and she doesn't care either.

My bridesmaids wore royal blue. So, the mothers word different shades of blue. Ask the bride and let her choose your color.

My mom always wore a dress she liked that had nothing to do with MOG or wedding colors. I never even thought it was a thing to coordinate.

I also never thought it was a thing to coordinate. They aren't part of the wedding party. I guess it is so they look good in photos?
When my sister got married my mom and his mom wore what they wanted. Come to think of it, I don't recall any formal wedding photos of the couple with the mothers or any of our family, actually. I'll ask my sister today if those exist.

Emily Post used to always comment if if wasn’t white or black or the same color or a shade of the bridesmaids dresses and was complimentary to the MOB or MOG, the it was a go! You

My DIL would rather have had her mom and I look and feel gorgeous (which we did, if I must say so) than have us look like a sack of potatoes to match the theme.

My older DS is soon to be married. He and groomsmen will wear dark navy, bridesmaids forest green. I chose a dress that suited me- it is blush satin overlaid with black lace. I have no idea what MOB will wear . My soon to be DIL said-“ choose something comfortable” so I did! I love her❤️

When dd was married the bridesmaids wore navy.
Dd told me to get whatever style dress fit best. It’s turned out that a navy lace dress with tan underlay was best. I sent her pictures while trying them on in stores and home from online purchases.

This didn’t even come up at our wedding. I didn’t care what my mom or MIL wore. Isn’t the point that they get something that compliments them? My bridesmaids (I had 3) wore champagne. The groomsmen (3) wore their own tuxes. My mom wore gunmetal and my mother in law wore mauve. We all look happy and lovely together. Just pick something you like and don’t worry about colour. That’s my advice.
