My homemade spaghetti is one of my favorite meals. Just had it last night and leftovers for lunch today. I’m sad it’s gone.

I love pasta, but it doesn't like me. It makes my joints hurt, my stomach bloat. I have it occasionally in summer pasta salads, and there's a red sauce Italian place in my town that is divine. But if I have too much, and/or too often, I regret it.

This thread stuns me. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a person IRL say they don’t like pasta!
I love plain pasta. I love plain rice. I love plain bread. Give me all the carbs!

Pasta is the easiest, most versatile, most bang for my buck food I can keep in the house. Need to feed a bunch of boys who are bottomless pits? Pasta keeps them full the longest Need to feed a crowd? Pasta Need a less than 10 mins to the table meal after a long day? Pasta Need a lot of energy before a busy day? Pasta Need something you can put in a lunchbox and eat cold? Pasta Need something cheap because it’s the week before payday? Pasta Need to pull together something with all the half used leftovers in your fridge? Throw them over pasta Need to feed a mix of omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans? Pasta Want to unwind with some wine and try an elaborate new sauce recipe? Pasta This is exactly what I think! Love pasta with everything! BUT…. I hate spaghetti. My DH would eat spaghetti every meal with jarred Ragu sauce. 🤮. Maybe I need a delicious homemade sauce. I can make a mean Alfredo sauce and several variations but have never made marinara.

I'm not a huge pasta person and prefer just to eat the sauce most of the time.
Asian noodles are a whole different ball game. I can't resist Pad Thai, udon or yakisoba noodles.
I did raise a couple pasta lovers though.

I like pasta because of the ingredients you add to it. I love it with red sauce and I love a good pasta salad! Pasta provides a base for the ingredients.

While I get it's not everyone's favourite, I too have never heard anyone in real life say they hate pasta.
One of my most favourite comfort foods is any bite-sized pasta cooked al dente with just enough butter or Greek olive oil to prevent sticking and a sprinkle of sea salt.😊 Yum!
I will admit though that I really dislike Alfredo sauce. Tomato Alfredo isn't too horrible. lol My husband loves pasta, any pasta, all pasta. He'd eat it every day if he could. For health reasons we limit our pasta intake.
So that's two votes for team pasta.lol

I don’t dislike pasta, but there are so many foods I like a million times better. Italian is not even on my top 5 list when we go out. My husband loves pasta, so that’s the only reason we ever go out to eat Italian.

I adore pasta. I used to think it didn’t love me back because of feeling overstuffed and yucky afterward. After I changed my eating to very low fat vegan, I’ve found I can eat pasta to my heart’s content with no ill effects. And I do, often.

I have a small appetite so I find pasta very filling but I do like it in the way others have said - with all the added flavours.
Do you use wholewheat pasta? We gave up white carbs and wholegrain rice and pasta is tastier the white, by far.

Rice, pasta, bread, noodles — all of these are some of my favorites! But I can definitely taste the difference between good quality and poor quality. And I do think low quality pasta tastes like cardboard.
I generally prefer DeCecco or Barilla for store bought dried pasta. And I haven’t found good rice at a Western supermarket.

I like pasta. I prefer Asian noodles (ramen, somen, soba), but I wouldn't pass up a plate of pasta of any kind. I really like pasta salads. Maybe because it doesn't have much taste by itself, the pasta really picks up the flavor of whatever you put on it. But,I also like the taste of rice, just rice with nothing added to it (i.e. butter, salt, etc). Yes, I can taste rice. My family doesn't understand how I can taste plain rice. I think that is it, pasta sucks up the flavor of what ever else you are eating and gives it body. No way am I eating a bowl of meatballs and sauce, or a bowl of Alfredo sauce, or cheese sauce or even just pesto chicken but throw some good pasta in and it is delicious. I do prefer spaghetti squash to pasta though in regular spaghetti and meatballs.
For those of you saying it tastes like cardboard, certainly there is terrible pasta, but good homemade noodles or even quality store bought pasta should never be flavorless.. I don't mind adding in some spagehtti squash in with regular pasta, or even hearts of palm with regular pasta. But I love pasta and just knowing I'm not getting it makes me feel deprived. LOL. So that's why I mix it.

Yes! 8 years ago when I started eating whole foods, plant based we switched from white to whole grains and we all love whole wheat pasta. I especially love making whole wheat pasta with lemon zest and fresh lemon juice and then adding fresh vegetables in the summer like chopped juicy tomatoes, sweet yellow corn, basil, and some garlic. Another version I make is again with lemon zest and lemon juice but instead with steamed asparagus and cherry tomatoes. We don't even miss the cheese and butter that we no longer eat when we eat pasta like this. It's refreshing, tastes great and fills us up. I do like pasta very much.

I do like whole-wheat pasta too- it's 'nuttier' and has more flavor. (but I still do like plain white pasta with butter, lol.) and I'm sorry, but did someone in this thread say spaghetti squash is an acceptable substitute? that is just wrong! lol.

It has to be good pasta, preferably freshly made. I buy fresh cavatelli or fusilli (the LONG kind) at my pork store. I also buy fresh ravioli or manicotti.
It has to be topped with a GREAT homemade-only sauce. I make my "Sunday Sauce" with my meatballs (beef/veal/pork) + sausage links (Italian). Bracciole added is nice and my mom alaways added neck bones. It has to simmer ALL day.
I also make a thick meatsauce (with ground beef and some ground pork). Again, it has to cook all day. I also make my own marinara which is quick.
Another delicious pasta meal is Rigatoni Bechamel. I follow Giada's recipe. Yum!!
DH used to make linguine with clam sauce. He'd make just a quick sauce of oil/garlic (browned) with herbs. Sometimes he'd steam broccoli and add it. He had his own secret recipe.
As far as PLAIN pasta? Eew, no. If it's quality pasta (or homemade) topped with a great sauce, then, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I like to top it with freshly grated parmigiano reggiano cheese too. I don't think I could ever be without my pasta meals!!

I don't dislike it but don't go out of my way to have it and I don't have any in the house. DH LOVED pasta. I used to make him crazy saying all pasta fundamentally tastes the same but in different shapes. It's what goes ON the pasta that makes the flavor. Made him nuts

Pasta and cheese are my two downfalls/addictions. I love pasta of any type with just lots of butter and some salt. I'll eat pasta with anything and my favorite salads have spiral pasta on them.

Now he feels so much better altering his diet.
Maybe you can have the nice red sauce at your Italian place on veggies, etc??? How about on eggplant?

Right now I have on hand spaghetti, lasagna noodles, small and large elbow pasta, macaroni salad pasta, bow tie pasta, spiral pasta, alphabet pasta, the kind that looks like large rice grains (can't remember what you call it), shell pasta and probably more that I am forgetting. One section of my lower kitchen cabinet is full of pasta.

mmmmm a big bowl of egg noodles with butter, parmesan, salt & pepper is my biggest guilty pleasure food. Now I'm craving it!
But I also love to eat plain rice too, or preferable with soya sauce on it. And yes plain rice definitely has flavour

Pasta is life! I have some form of pasta nearly every day. My hangover food is still buttered egg noodles with lots of salt. Just this week I've had shrimp lo mein, cold tuna pasta salad and Swedish meatballs over egg noodles. I could live on pasta. I have so many good recipes-my DH requests my beef stroganoff and taco pasta quite often.
