I am beyond disgusted.
Ironic considering Favre has now built his “brand name”/image to be a celebrity that is really a good ‘old down home kinda guy just like you and me - Wrangler Jeans ads and all. No surprise that he is a Republican.
The screenshot of the texts is damning if it is genuine.
I, too, hope that there are consequences.

Its the city of Jackson that didn't have drinking water, and at this point, the pumps have been replaced, water is flowing, and they are hoping the boil water will be lifted any day now. Most of the cities in the state have managed their municipal systems just fine.
I've been following this story since it broke in early 2020. The only thing new in the last few days is the release of the texts and the former governor's explicit involvement. I kind of thought Brett Favre accepted the money for speaking engagements (which was the original report) that were genuinely cancelled, and since he probably doesn't handle his own money, he didn't personally track where the money went in the long run, even though he has never had the most stellar reputation locally. You know how they say you can tell someone's character by watching how they treat people "beneath" them? Every server and valet in town has a negative Brett Favre story, but most of them are from when he was younger.
The executive director of this non-profit seems to be cooperating with prosecutors, so I doubt this will be the last we see of people in high places being exposed. And since her schools and non-profits aren't all located in republican strongholds, I won't be surprised if the corruption crossed the aisle - we're just seeing the biggest fish first.

The OP pointed out a city problem (mayor and city council responsibility that is currently being fixed by the sitting governor who I'm still not convinced has the authority, though I'm glad he is doing something) then brought up an article about a different, former governor involved in a complicated investigation; it just muddies the waters on two important issues that don't appear to be related. Even the most critical local articles haven't suggested that the welfare funds ever would have been going to the Jackson water system. If anything, they would have gone to a different non-profit, and its nuts that they were used for a college volleyball stadium (speaking fees routed to a volleyball stadium? I still don't quite understand the mechanics there, probably because it hasn't been really explained yet.).

The water - it is a JACKSON problem; the rest of the state has no issues.
I don't understand where you got the second impression. Both the current and the former governor have their hands dirtied in the welfare fraud scheme, in one way or another.

Admittedly, I'm an outsider, but the water seems like a state of federal problem, bigger than just the city. The cost to replace the system is prohibitively expensive for a struggling city. Its tax base has eroded the past few decades as the population decreased — the result of mostly white flight to suburbs that began after public schools integrated in 1970. Our (Green Bay/Wisconsin) last 2 quarterbacks played exceptional ball and for long time period. In the time we've had two, Chicago, for instance, has gone through 35+ QBs.
Too bad they have come to be disappointing as people off the field.
Between them, the long-term effects and other NFL debacles, I'm not so keen on the game anymore. Lost some of it's luster.
Favre sucks if he knew, did it anyway, tried to hide it etc. If so, no wonder he's reportedly a trumper. Same. 🤢 🤮
