My Favorite song and show is Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. I relate to being the one that is different than the rest. I am good with that.

classic: o holy night (hate to say it but i like celine dion's version the best) fun: marshmallow world by dean martin modern: last christmas by wham O Holy Night and I'm not ashamed to say it by Celine Dion. Or it at least had to be sung by a woman.

I just love "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake (From the group Emerson, Lake and Palmer) The words are awesome. Especially the end. My favorite recording of it is off of the 2002's CD A Classic Rock Christmas. The choir is not quite so prominent as in the youtube versions. Love the lyric video though! <deleted lyrics for post aesthetics> LOL The melody is lovely and the orchestration is astounding, IMO. It's not really a Christmas song, though - more a protest of Christmas. But I like it, too and I listen to it during the holidays. I feel the same way about the Joni Mitchell song Coming on Christmas. I love the song, the lyrics and the melody, but it's a sad song about her breakup with Graham Nash. meh - life is complicated, right? I agree with you on the Joni Mitchell one too! It is on my x-mas playlist! I actually first heard this song back when the cast of the tv show Nashville did a Christmas album. Sam Palladio sang it and did a beautiful job. It's my favorite version of this song! Here is the Sam Palladio Version of River (Coming on Christmas)

There are many that I love, but O Come, All Ye Faithful, especially the second verse, will always win out for me.

I cannot stand Feliz Navidad or I'll Have a Blue Christmas.

The ones I like: Emmanuel, God With Us by Amy Grant The Gift by Aselin Debison Angels We Have Heard on High (because it was fun to play on the piano when I was a kid)
Not so much: The Christmas Shoes makes my ears bleed every time I hear it. I also don’t like traditional Christmas songs where they splice in sections of people talking.

my favorite is Mary Did You KnowI have a version of it on my FB - the favorite line is "did you know when you touched your baby, you touched the face of God?" I had heard the song before and found the tune haunting and pretty. But this year, I found the lyrics which I had never really paid attention to before. That is when I really fell in love with it. It sent shivers down my spine the first time I heard it with the lyrics available on the screen at the same time.

I love Do You Hear What I Hear, O Holy Night, and Mary Did You Know. At school we sing I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas with all the hand motions. I get tired of it because we have been doing it for years. However, Kacy Musgraves does a fun version of the song that I do like.

I just really hate the sad ones (like Christmas Shoes) or the really goofy ones (like Hippopotamus for Christmas). Others, it just depends on my mood. If I'm in the car, I like the more fun ones. Cooking dinner, I like the more instrumental ones.
Christmas makes DH sad, so I can't really listen to any around him.

This morning we had a presentation at our church about variations between British and American Christmas songs. Some had different text and some had different tunes. I never knew!

That's really interesting. I wish I could have seen that! I just remembered some more wonderful ones. My last year's favourite is Still, Still, Still and my other all-time favourite is Berlioz's Shepherds' Farewell

Coventry Carol sung by Lorena McKennitt River sung by Sarah McLachlan O Come Emmanuel sung by Bette Midler (this has always seemed like the Jewiest of Christmas carols-maybe something about the key it's set to?) O Holy Night various Here We Come A Wassailing-just seems to capture the joy of the season Finally the perennial favorite: Christmas in Jail by Asleep At The Wheel

i find it interesting that the welsh call out their hymns by the tune name, and in the usa, we know the song by the lyric name..

Not a fan of carols with people singing, but I do love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas music.

My very favorite Christmas song is Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. It is a very bittersweet song for me and has actually made me cry if I hear it randomly out in a store somewhere. I prefer slower versions and my current favorite is by Cat Power.
