I saw on TikTok a theory that the Republicans will nominate and vote trump in as speaker of the house tomorrow, poetic justice for 1/6 2 years ago. I got chills thinking about that. Apparently you don't have to be a member of Congress to be nominated or to be speaker.

It's entirely possible, you can never underestimate the Republicans and their ability to sink lower into a bottomless pit. Every time they do something absolutely terrible, they manage too do something worse. However, I am a little encouraged that Trump endorsed McCarthy and the holdouts still didn't change their vote. I'm hopeful it's a sign of Trump's declining power.

All joking aside, 8-10 moderate Republicans should vote for Jeffries and end this debacle and at the same time send a message to the Republicans to get their act together. Republicans, even moderate ones, will never vote for a Democrat. It would be the end of their political career. Even if for some reason, Jeffries did get elected, the Republicans could easily vote him out with a majority vote. Maybe moderate Republicans and Democrats could work together to nominate someone like Cheney, Kinzinger or Fred Upton. Even that is a really long shot. Jeffries recent comment makes that possibility seem highly unlikely. www.newsweek.com/hakeem-jeffries-blasts-republican-dysfunction-battle-house-speaker-1771345NBC News' Ryan Nobles, who had asked whether Democrats could rally behind a consensus candidate—possibly a moderate Republican—for the role. "We are looking for a willing partner to solve problems for the American people, not save the Republicans from their dysfunction," Jeffries replied.

The files recently released by the Jan 6 Committee revealed that Trump didn't know that the specifics of his daily schedule were made public until Dec 2020. That's when his schedule changed and said dumb things like he had many important phone calls. Even ordinary Americans know the president's daily schedule is public. How could he be president for 4 years and not know that?

Although I’m not sure which other candidate would be less of a bad option than McCarthy, am I the only one who is petty enough to want him to NOT get it - because I want to see him have to move his stuff out of the Speaker's office?
I dislike him intensely, and it’s obvious he’ll do anything to get this position, which also makes me not want him to get it.

From the outside, it looks like a signal to the holdouts that he doesn't care about their objections and he is just going to steam roll right over them. Gaetz has really criticized him for it.

Normally I would provide accounts of what is happening on the House floor while they determine the next Speaker of the House. I mean that is why I started the thread.
But apparently the number of posts I make when I do this annoys some on this board.
So today I’m won’t be doing it.
Now watch them elect trump as Speaker of the House while I take a break. 😀

It's been hard for me to follow what is going on because I can't sit in front of the TV all day to watch what's happening. I don't think others are annoyed either, they just want to hear less of what others' opinions are and more of what you, yourself, think about the things that happening. I think it actually was an invitation to you for more of your own input. But that's just my take on it.

I'll join you on that Petty Bench (which isn't petty, at least I don't think so! lol) -- I would love to see him moving his stuff out. How arrogant to just assume and move everything in ahead of time.

It is that you posting on political threads completely missed the visual cue that would help one come to the conclusion that this is more than a staged photo. It is all about family values of yesteryear and closing ones eyes to the realities of current families. Anyone can share a tweet. But just because you share, share, share doesn't mean you grasp what is going on. You can't just expect people to follow along blindly to the tweets being posted. There will be discussions and side discussions and valuable points made. That is where we learn. From others points of view.

At some time I lost count…so much repetition is almost numbing, kinda make it seem normal. Lucky 13 today…if my count is correct.

I personally appreciate your posts and the tweets that you share because I am trying to stay off of Twitter but like to know what is going on in small bits. What I read on that other thread was that someone said that you shouldn't be trying to control what OTHER people post and directing the responses to what you want to talk about. If the thread gets derailed, or doesn't go in the direction you want, so be it. But you got upset about that.

What if Dems and reasonable Republicans worked together to support someone so the far right doesn't get concessions that no one wants to see them get.

McCarthy will be completely neutered by the time he becomes the Speaker. He will have no power. It has certainly been entertaining.

Trust between parties is so broken I don’t see that happening. Correct. Proven by the lack of GOP attendence at the memorial on the Capitol steps this morning. Not one person in GOP leadership attended. Only one GOP Congressman was seen, although there could have been more. GOP Rep Fitzpatrick, I think his name, was there.

Okay watching some of the coverage here..does Paul Gossar have Parkinsons? The guy's head bobbles and twitches really alarmingly.
Looks like it's going to finally be McCarthy but what a humiliating mess getting there. He still needs 4 more flips at this point.

Could well be Parkinson's.. in his last few campaigns his family campaigned AGAINST him saying he was not fit to run or seek office
