It's been a busy day for me, starting with an in-person information session for people interested in becoming CASAs. This is the first in-person session since Jan 2020 and we were all thrilled to be there live. After I went to visit my most recent case kids. Their case closed at the end of November and we weren't able to coordinate a last visit during December, so it was especially great to see them happy and settled. Going through the deli drawer I discovered some smoked salmon bought for the holiday feasting and never used, so the plan is to make a simple smoked salmon, lemon and dill pasta dish. I have kohlrabi noodles, too, and will toss a Caesar(ish) salad. So grateful for folks like you as CASAs. I'm a social worker/professor and my students have had such great internships there, in addition to the powerful effect on families/children.

destined2bmom, my suggestion is to get a puzzle that doesn't require thinking. LOL. I have a puzzle mat that I purchased at Amazon. It stores so easily and when it's out it has 2 felt boards for sorting. I posted it somewhere the other day. It's not this one, but it's similar: Portable puzzle storageThere are cheaper ones, too.

Greetings from Dubai. We landed here about an hour ago, and have just over two hours until our next flight starts boarding, so we are just having a coffee in the lounge. Dinner on the plane was yum! I had my favourite starter on Emirates - the Arabic Mezze plate, which has dips, flatbread and olives, followed by spiced fish with rice and caramelised onions. Dessert was cookies and cream cheesecake. For breakfast just before landing I had the French toast with mascarpone and plum compote. I managed to get about 6 hours sleep in between, and then napped a bit after breakfast. We get into Munich around lunchtime Sunday, so I hope to mainly stay awake on the second flight and go to bed at normal time and hopefully avoid the worst of the jet lag.

I took Nick to a really good Thai place I found for lunch. It was his first time having Thai food and he loved it! I was surprised he hadn't had it before. We shared spring rolls and dumplings. I had chicken and vegetable stir fry and he had orange chicken. Both were amazing...we have a high tolerance for heat so she kicked it up and it was fantastic!
We were going to try a new place that just opened today in our little downtown on the lake but we were still kind of full. We made tamales last weekend at NY's and I still had masa and corn husks so I made more pork and we finished assembling them. They are steaming now so that will be dinner. I have leftover pork so I will make pozole for his lunch this week, and freeze the rest for carnitas when we need a quick dinner.

I really need new living room furniture. Currently I am using one grandmother’s old sofa which was never gorgeous to begin with, and then my sister’s cat clawed it up a bit for good measure. I keep it covered now, since a year after the boys moved in, I had to pay someone $200 to clean it. The love seat belonged to my other grandmother and it’s a true loveseat, like, a chair and a half. I remember sharing it with my DH at my grandma’s house, when we were much younger and thinner. It’s better than the sofa but has also seen better days. I can probably con my brother into taking it home with him … I think he’s the one who dumped it here in the first place. If anyone is interested, I also have my grandpa’s rolltop desk in my garage. I can’t escape this stuff. leannec, your living room looks gorgeous. I’m just not a good shopper. Ashley, huh? Maybe I’ll take a look. I just noticed that scrapmaven had yesterday's thread dated 11/6. Someone noticed it yesterday and posted about it early in the thread, but apparently no one else but me “got” it. Dinner was ham with mac & cheese.

Father took out the ingredients to make the pot roast. I get to cook it. Still that helped me a lot.

We are having Swiss Steak, rice for the guys and potatoes for me. I love Swiss steak, esp over mashed potatoes. It is supreme comfort food for me. I have seen this a couple of times on this thread. I haven’t had Swiss steak in years. Anybody got a good recipe?

I don't really use a recipe so this might not help, but I layer round steak, baby carrots and thickly sliced onion in the crockpot. In a mason jar I combine a couple packets of brown gravy mix, most of a can of tomato paste, salt.pepper, minced garlic and about 2 cups of warm water, and then I shake it all up to dissolve/combine. I pour that over everything in the crockpot and cook it on low for about 6 hrs, depending on how full the crockpot is. It's done when it falls apart. Occasionally I will thi ken the gravy with a bit of cornstarch slurry, but usually it doesn't need it. I aeece it over mashed potatoes.

I know it's early but I love all the red and pink and hearts and lovey dovey stuff. We found a hutch/buffet on the curb and shockingly it was in great shape so now it has a new home as a coffee/hot chocolate bar, and I'm loving the seasonal stuff for it! Ohhhh, I love all the seasonal cute coffee/ hot chocolate bars that people create on youtube. How cool that you found a hutch/buffet! I also have lotsa cute Valentines decorations. Mayyyybe this year, I'll have the energy to decorate again. Yes, I didn't even need to paint it! I hope you can decorate if you are able. The Dollar Tree had some cute stuff! It makes me happy to look at it. ♥️

leannec, your living room looks gorgeous. I’m just not a good shopper. Ashley, huh? Maybe I’ll take a look. Aw, thanks! My condo is a combination of Ashley, Urban Barn, Wayfair, Costco, April Cornell, Amazon and then stuff that I brought from my old house ... but the sofa and chair and standing lamp are Ashley. I was kind of dreading decorating the place because I don't love shopping but once you find a couple of good pieces ... the Paris chair was my starting point ... it becomes more fun!
