I called it 'flocking' to a coworker, and she'd never heard that word.

I call it flocking also. One time in the early 70's we bought a do-it-yourself flocking kit and flocked our own tree. What a mess! But it actually worked well and the tree was beautiful. Clean-up was the pits though. Do they still sell flocked real trees?

Do they still sell flocked real trees? Yes, I saw a really pretty Martha Stewart one at Home Depot last week. It had some pine cones, too. And a little glitter effect sort of like frost. Here's a picture - the flocking is really light.

Flocking is the term I'm used to. Did your co-worker have a different word for it? Or had she just never heard of doing that to a tree?

I call it fake snow even though the correct term is flocking. For some reason, I don't like that word.

I was going to say fake snow, but yes, I've heard of Flocking. And it's correct even though I'd never think of it on my own! LOL!

Of course, even tree lots are slowly disappearing. (Says the person who just bought an artificial tree a couple of weeks ago!)

Oh, I didn't know they flocked REAL ones? ! The one and only time I saw and had one was when I spent Christmas with my father in Los Angeles way back in the early 80's. It was a gorgeous tree.

Flocking. I saw a pretty, artificial, flocked tree at Hobby Lobby. It had pine cones and berries on it as well. All it needed was white lights. If it was cheaper I would have bought it for my dining room.

Yes, flocking. Which, by the way, would make a great Mormon swear word.
"I need to decorate my flocking tree." and all...

Flocking.
Growing up we called fake snow is the stuff you used to be able to get in a can and spray in your windows to look like snow.

At least one of our local cut tree lots has a sign offering to flock it for you before taking it home.

Do they still sell flocked real trees? They sure do. Most of the garden centers around here offer flocking. Flocking options at Al's

Flocking. In fact last week I saw a lot advertising free flocking, so on real trees in San Diego :-)

Maybe she's thinking of the white stuff in a bag that is called fake snow rather than a tree lot that *flocks* the trees. One of our lots sold different colors of the rainbow in flocked trees last year. Blue, pink, etc. Not my cup of tee but different strokes and all.
