Just hugs...that's always so hard to deal with mentally as well as the real world ramifications.

I just went through this in July. I was laid off 1 day before my 23rd work anniversary. It was a tough blow to my mental health. As much as I thought that I didn't place my own self-worth in my job, when I was laid off, I put a lot of stock in my job providing my self worth. I, too, had a tough go of even getting an interview. Networking is so important. Most of my interviews came through a referral. Big hugs to the both of you, I hope he finds a job that he will enjoy soon. I hope you’ve found a wonderful second act and that you have met so many interesting and fun people you may not have met otherwise. I was laid off after 4 promotions and 12 years at a company. It truly doesn’t make sense sometimes. Same as you said, I didn’t realize how much it would sting, even apart from the logistics.

I’m so so sorry to hear you are going through this! My husband was also laid off 10 days ago and they didn’t even let him go back to say goodbye. He had heard rumblings for a couple of weeks that there would be layoffs but he didn’t seem too concerned. Then, the night before the layoffs were to happen, there were rumblings of there being quite a few executive layoffs and came home pretty nervous that night and didn’t sleep much. At 6 AM, he woke up to an email saying his position had been eliminated and that he had a meeting at 7. He didn’t even have two weeks, he was just done that day. It’s been so strange. His company laid off almost 2000 people. It’s crazy too because I quit my part-time job in December to be around for my 13 & 15 yr olds, so it’s a little strange for us to both wake up twiddling our thumbs. I wish you guys so much luck finding a new job and hope he ends up in a great situation for him! DM me if you’d like to chat! It’s such an uncertain time. Sending an email is really low. I am disgusted when I hear about companies doing that. Best of luck to all of you hunting for new jobs. It's scary, frustrating, and demoralizing to be laid off.

I had become miserable where I was at and wasn't doing anything to move on, even though I know I needed to. This was a blessing in disguise, though tough to see while I was going through it. Thanks for your kind words! I hope you also ended up somewhere that you were happier!

I'm so sorry that ya'll are dealing with that. My DH just got laid off too after 15 years with his company. Being in the tech industry is not a good place to be. It has been quite a blow to his ego. He got a severance package that will get us through the next few months. He is sending out resumes and networking with his contacts. I hope your DH finds something soon.

I actually increased my salary by ALOT- and I like what I do now, much much better. I hope OP’s husband is saying the exact same thing, very soon!

My company just shut down our division at work but we were lucky to be absorbed into other divisions. I had an "oh shit" moment when they first announced it because I thought I was being laid off.
Big hugs to you and your DH and good luck in his job search!

My DH was let go last March -- and is still looking. It's getting very hard for him to keep his spirits up. It's been tough in that he finds a lot of interviewers just don't show up, or ghost him after 1 interview. I hope your husband finds better success. It's tough out there for sure. <3

I am really sorry. I didn’t see his age mentioned, but it does get harder as you get older. Try to avoid including anything on his resume and cover letter that screams out how old he is. And when he gets an interview … I know men don’t like to hear this, but if his hair is graying, he should really think about coloring it.
Sorry if someone already said all this, or if it’s just annoying advice. I didn’t read the whole thread.
