Interesting that in all of GOP being interviewed, they list so many sensitive areas the balloon flew over.. Why not keep your damn mouths shut!! Total disregarding all the satellites up there in space! Just mentioned that our satellites are able to read a license plate on earth, surely the Chinese satellites are just as efficient!! Does anyone in the GOP consider that their words are important? Let's be honest here...they would be complaining regardless of what the decision was regarding shooting it down or leaving it. All they care about is finding a way to make themselves look better than Biden. But while they are playing their political games here, their messages are heard loud and clear in other countries and they do matter. When you see immigrants coming to the US saying that they think the borders are open or that they will get a free bus ride to whatever city they want, where do you think they are hearing that? Oh yeah...one party repeats that day in and day out. All to try to make their political opponents look bad. In the meanwhile they are causing harm to countless people making the trek here as well as making the situation more difficult for all trying to improve the situation for those who do make it. We have GOP congresspeople and Fox hosts siding with Russia. Who do you think hears that? And now we have them telling us what China certainly was thinking, causing more of a ruckus than needed, and going on and on to make the President look weak. What will the consequences of all of that be? It's nothing positive for the rest of us that is for sure. This is what I have been thinking for years. While trying to make the other side look bad it makes the country look ridiculous. They are the only ones saying our borders are open. I have heard Dems say over and over don’t come. So much of what you said is what I have been thinking. Politicians look like idiots do much. Better to keep your mouth shut that prove you are clueless but they all want to make the news snd try and get the other side and just can’t help themselves. All the Putin and China talk again looking foolish and playing right into their hands.

I do think that there should be some immigration reform, but republicans and their actions and messaging have done nothing to help the situation. Not when Trump was in power and not now. They have no real interest in actually improving anything in this country. I have always hated the term “owning the libs” and probably misunderstood what exactly that means. But I think this is a good example of that. They will do or say anything to make democrats look bad, regardless of how it affects anything else. They are immoral, unethical, cruel bullies.

Update on the original balloon. The one shot down off South Carolina. It was able to maneuver, change directions and control speed.
The new balloon that was just taken down by the Aleutian Islands is much small, something (unknown balloon or payload) the size of a car. No markings seemed to be visible. No idea who is responsible.

Really curious what we will be able to find out from what we recover from them. We assume both were from China but it’s better not to assume. I wonder when they will stop coming. How many will we be taking down.

But now that enticement is the Democrats’ fault, too. IDK what Republicans want unless it’s for soldiers to stand on the wall and shoot every immigrant on sight.

When I did a search at the time I found that a Wisconsin unit just got back. I’m sure these aren’t the only ones.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t keep them closed but we need better policies. We keep kicking it down the road and it’s not getting better. They also want to say that drugs are coming over with immigrants and illegal crossings vs the truth that 80% I think the number was are coming through legal points of entry by US citizens. Interesting that the NG is helping on our borders.

Another high altitude 'object' shot down near Lake Huron by our Air Force..
Octagonal shape with 'strings' hanging down. Could not find it after reports last night, did observe it on radar this morning.
Was flying at 20,000 which is in the area of common flights.. far more dangerous.

The Biden administration was flying people to different areas of the country in the middle of the night so no one would notice, well before the "Republican governors". So no one would notice huh. The rest of the story… linkFrom The Washington Post “ The difference between DeSantis’s migrant flights and the Biden administration’s”
Analysis by Aaron Blake “When Fox News host Sean Hannity took to the airwaves Tuesday night, you could be forgiven for thinking he had some tough words for an official like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) transporting migrants around the country. “If I went down to the border and I put people in the back of my car, or I transported them to another state, would I not get arrested for human trafficking?” Hannity said. “Isn’t that against the law?” Hannity, of course, wasn’t talking about the most high-profile recent example of that, which involved DeSantis. Instead, he was talking about President Biden. The dispute over DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sending migrants to Democratic areas and whether those migrants were misled into participating has landed, predictably and perhaps inevitably, in whataboutism. In recent days, defenders of DeSantis and Abbott have increasingly cited a supposed incongruity in the criticisms: They note that the Biden administration also flies and transports migrants to other areas of the country. And that’s true. But just as criticisms of the Biden administration’s supposed “ghost flights” have long been overblown, the comparison between the two situations mismatches in some key ways. The whataboutism drumbeat has picked up in recent days. “Republican governors flying illegal aliens to a liberal tourist destinations: Kidnapping!” summarized Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). “Democrats like Joe Biden flying illegal aliens at midnight to your community: Charity, compassion, a chance.” “You can’t have it both ways,” Rep. Troy E. Nehls (R-Tex.) tweeted Tuesday. “So, when Biden is flying these people all over the fruited plain in the middle of the night, I didn’t hear a peep out of those people,” DeSantis added earlier Tuesday, as his campaign repeatedly made the same argument on social media. The criticism of the Biden administration flying migrants around the country has been building for some time. It was spurred on by a Republican candidate for New York governor releasing body-camera footage of a plane carrying more than 100 unaccompanied migrant children landing in Westchester County, N.Y., in August of last year. And it’s an attractive subject for a conservative media ecosystem which often plays up border issues close to an election.
But the criticisms often skirt over the fact that these flights carry children — and that’s important. In fact, the government by law cannot hold unaccompanied minors in border facilities for more than 72 hours, and they must be cared for while they are transported to relatives, sponsors or shelters.“Our legal responsibility is to care for unaccompanied children while they are on our watch, and that includes connecting them to vetted sponsors,” Department of Health and Human Services spokesman Jorge Silva told The Washington Post’s Fact Checker back in February. That law isn’t new, meaning such flights occurred under the Trump administration, too — without the backlash from Trump’s partisans. Reports from 2018 cited flights of migrant children to New York and other places. At one point in 2019, the Trump administration sought a private contractor who could transport 225,000 migrants across the country to temporary shelters, because of overcrowding at the border. A top Immigration and Customs Enforcement official clarified to Fox News at the time that such transports had already been taking place.( Critics have also cited the early-morning hours of some of these landings under the Biden administration, suggesting that they were intended to avoid detection. But officials have explained that’s often done to avoid exposing the identities of the children involved or subjecting them to unwanted attention. And a CNN review found most headed to Jacksonville, Fla., didn’t land in the dead of the night.)The numbers overall under Biden do appear to have increased, according to official data from the Department of Health and Human Services on where the children are released. That reflects the increased numbers of unaccompanied minors crossing the border and the easing of pandemic-era restrictions. Border facilities have been overflowing. But these kinds of flights happened before, because the federal government has to comply with the law.And that’s another key distinction: It is indeed the federal government that is charged with enforcing immigration law. Congress has given more authority to states and local officials over time, but federal law preempts state law. A last key distinction is who is being flown, along with the how and why. The federal government does sometimes transport adult detainees to other detention facilities, but the evidence indicates the ones that are the subject of GOP criticism — the migrants being released — are children. They are technically undocumented immigrants, but they are being transported under the legal process. The buses and planes used by Republican governors, by contrast, convey people of all ages, and they are asylum seekers. The program is set up for people who have been processed by federal immigration officials and are awaiting their dates in court. DeSantis and Abbott have said that these migrants signed waivers, meaning their transportation was elective rather than required by law. And if that’s all it turns out to be, there’s likely to be no legal trouble. Some migrants have said they were grateful to be transported to more welcoming places, but Democrats, immigrant advocates and some of the migrants themselves have suggested the migrants might have been misled into participating. That’s the stated reason most are objecting to the practice. It’s really the crux of the matter. All of which reinforces that not all transportation of migrants is the same. Not that plenty of people involved will bother with the meddlesome details.”

Also it wasn't only children the Biden administration was moving around the country

Not all transportation of migrants is the same. The difference is consent and understanding and interpreters, if necessary. What DeSantis did possibly violated the law. And the Biden administration is not moving migrants to score political points or appear on Fox News. The Biden administration moved mostly children, as required by law. The Trump administration did as well. Where is your criticism of the Trump administration?
Another false premise, false comparison and false equivalency

Not all, but numerous immigrants have family here who are willing to take them. They, of course, are all around the country. Yes taxpayers are paying to transport them to their ChOSEN destinations, which protects them and provides them a safe place which family.

If you're getting picky, the original statement didn't say ONLY Republican governors were busing and flying immigrants north.
And the Biden administration is flying people all over the country, not just north depending on their needs, locations of families, etc.
You're missing the larger point that the Biden administration is moving immigrants as required by law. Organizations, families and people helping them are all notified.
Republican governors are trying to score political points. Especially when DeSantis bussed them from an entirely different state, 700 miles away. He sent them north to a small isolated island community, ill equipped to help immigrants, especially in the off season. And he did not notify authorities. Other governors sent immigrants to the VP's house in DC without any notice, and left them there at midnight without any support. The objection to the Republican governors is their use of immigrants as political pawns, their lack of compassion and the lack of preparation or support.
Again, there is a difference. Not all transportation of migrants is the same.

The problem is the way the Republican Governors are doing it. They were lying to these people. Tricking them into thinking by sending them someplace else all these great jobs would be waiting for them. And then sending them to areas without letting people in that area know they were coming. Also calling them illegals when in fact the vast majority are seeking asylum which is legal. In other words to get back at a Democratic President these governors were using these folks. Treating them as less than human. That is the story that you are ignoring to make a cheap point. There is no question immigration needs to be reformed. But you don’t treat people like the Republicans Governors are doing. You just don’t.
