They had another derailment yesterday.. A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed Saturday morning in Lexington, North Carolina, but no immediate danger to the public was reported."One of our trains traveling through Lexington derailed his morning. Of the train’s 132 cars, 1 has derailed. There are no reports of a hazmat situation or danger to the public," a company spokesperson told Fox News. "Our crew is safe and additional personnel are on their way to begin cleanup. We appreciate the public’s patience and care near this area during the cleanup work." The accident triggered fears following the derailment earlier this month of a 50-car Norfolk Southern train in East Palestine, Ohio. Ten of those cars were carrying vinyl chloride, and the toxic chemicals spilled onto the ground and erupted in a plume of smoke that triggered community evacuations. www.rawstory.com/norfolk-southern-north-carolina/

It's disgusting how people like Tucker Carlson are using an environmental disaster to talk about white "victimhood" www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/02/21/east-palestine-train-derailment-tucker-carlson-jd-vance-fox-news/The fiery derailment of a freight train carrying hazardous chemicals in eastern Ohio is coming to represent bigger societal failures. It’s a story about profit-driven rail companies underinvesting in safety, lobbyists weakening rail regulation, and the government’s failure to assure residents’ security from lingering toxins.
But in certain right-wing media precincts, the disaster is about something else: A campaign of discrimination being waged against White people. “East Palestine is overwhelmingly White, and it’s politically conservative,” Fox News’s Tucker Carlson recently said of the roughly 4,700 residents of the disaster zone. “That shouldn’t be relevant,” he added, but “it very much is.”
It very much isn’t. But ever since the Feb. 3 disaster, Carlson and his comrades have sought to transform East Palestine’s plight into a tale about “woke” Democrats abandoning White communities in the virtuous, forgotten heartland
Carlson ratchets up this vile game by saying that if the accident had happened in Philadelphia or Detroit — wink, wink — there would be no neglect. And the race-baiting gets worse. One Fox News host suggested the Biden administration is “spilling toxic chemicals on poor white people.” Far-right personality Charlie Kirk decried a “war on white people” waged by the “Biden regime,” which is supposedly allowing the “poisoning” of “citizens of eastern Ohio.” Note the hints of the ugly trope that elites are plotting to exterminate Whites, or at least allowing them to perish..

Counterpoint to Tucker. So it turns out the toxic waste from this disaster is being transported to other places for disposal. Among them is Harris County, Texas - the county where Houston is. It’s being deep-well injected into our soil, whatever that means. Harris County is noticeably majority not-white, which is likely why Gov. Abbott is fine with having it disposed of here. Fuckers. www.cnn.com/2023/02/27/us/ohio-train-derailment-east-palestine-monday/index.htmlETA: Deep-well injection apparently means sticking all the toxic stuff into old oil and gas wells and hoping that none of it leaks or leeches into the ground water. Texas has thousands of decommissioned wells, most of them in remote, rural, and red-voting parts of the state, but we're putting the toxic stuff here in the most populous and blue-voting county in the state. Make it make sense.

Let the liars lie and collect their funds from the rail companies.. Rail corporations spent millions lobbying elected officials not to support stronger transportation safety regulations, financial reports revealed. But they also gave at least $472,000 since 2016 to Republican Senators Marco Rubio (FL), Ted Cruz (TX), Josh Hawley (MO) and Ron Johnson (WI). Since the derailment, Rubio has spent a lot of time attacking Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and calling for his resignation. Rubio scored $54,500 in cash from the biggest rail corporations, including Norfolk Southern, the company that owns the trail disaster in Ohio. Rubio also got $107,000 for his political action committee. IN OTHER NEWS: Judge handcuffs crying 13-year-old girl who was attending her father's hearing Cruz has celebrated deregulation, particularly when it comes to transportation. Less than 24 hours later, Cruz called on policymakers to “address the derailment’s root causes rather than simply advance narrow political interests.” He's taken $32,500 from the big rail companies and nearly $100k for his PAC. In 2021, "he co-sponsored legislation narrowing the amount of time agencies have to complete environmental reviews of proposed federal action, and assigning penalties to agencies that don’t comply with those timelines," the Republic noted. "Cruz also pushed a bill in the same Congress, alongside Senators John Kennedy and Kevin Cramer, to prohibit the Department of Transportation from issuing any regulation to limit the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by rail." Hawley, on the other hand, suddenly decided he cared about the people of Ohio and their exposure to chemicals and demanded that the EPA and Transportation Secretary Buttigieg act. His PAC got $3,000 from Norfolk Southern and $10,000 from BNSF prior to the 2020 election. He also got a personal donation from a Norfolk board member in 2018. "As Missouri Attorney General, Hawley was among the Republican officials who helped weaken Obama-era water protections," the New Republic reported. Johnson has ranted about the trail derailment in fundraising emails since it happened, but it's all an effort to pay off his campaign debt. Johnson got $53,500 from the top four big rail companies and $114,00 for his PAC. He co-sponsored a bill to delay the implementation of a monitoring system that all trains would be required aiming to prevent collisions and derailment. Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) has refused to ask the federal government for help or to declare a statewide emergency, which cripples the response abilities of the federal government. He's taken $29,000 from Norfolk Southern since 2018. www.rawstory.com/train-derailment-republican-rail-donations/

Make it make sense. Did Abbot OK it? You aren't required to get special permission from anyone to move in this crap across state lines. From what I have read, hauling toxic waste like this to Texas is done all the time. In 2022, 105,000 + tons of waste was brought to Texas to be disposed of. There are 5 facilities that have the right type of disposal wells in our state to handle this type of mess and Houston's facility has the best expertise to handle this. If there was ever a case of wanting the absolute best people/facilities to handle this, for me, this is that case. Don't get me wrong -- I think it's absolute crap that they are hauling it across the US to be disposed of. And I am worried about potential leaks as my son was in Hawaii last year when the oil tanks leaked into the water supply there and he's dealt with the side effects of that. But I am not sure it's some political/race reason why they are taking it there.

Wonder if they will put it on other trains or truck it. Just share the 'wealth'..... That's how they create super sites...
