So glad you made it through! You can do this! Someone one in my cancer support group decided she would write in a journal each day after her radiation treatment. She records the songs she listened to and her feelings. I wish I had thought of that during my radiation.

I am also very proud of you! Having radiation on your brain is daunting in itself, but having it done in a facility where not everyone can understand you adds that extra layer of stress. Although I’m sure your husband was the translator for you, it would still be difficult not understanding what they were saying to each other.
I would think they will all get easier now that you came through the first one so well. How many are they thinking you will need total?

While I do understand most of what I hear and can respond pretty well, you are right...it adds an extra level of stress. I remember this was a BIG issue going into the initial emergency surgery. It seems most of the people in the radiation/oncology clinic speak English, so it's helped a lot. BUT, I have noticed that since the surgery, my brain fog has tripped me up with understanding and speaking Arabic like I did before. Hopefully, that will come back. I am to have 5 treatments in total. So maybe two more next week. Next one is on Monday. It literally took more time to park and walk than the treatment itself. The staff are just AWESOME! They were so comforting today. And the funniest thing...I was asking the tech about when/if the fatigue will hit me from the treatments. He was like it should be minimal. I told him that Ramadan was coming up and that I needed to be "tired" so I didn't have to be in the kitchen. So when he walked me out to DH, he told DH that I needed to take it easy, ESPECIALLY in the weeks after the treatment and that I won't be able to stand much...and no cooking! LOL As we walked away, he gave me a wink! LOL

I'm glad that the tips and tricks from the peas helped you get through the treatment. Perhaps the medical team will note that a playlist helped and suggest it to others going through similar procedures.
Love the tech, heart in the right place

What a relief to get that first treatment done. And what a kind tech to look out for you. The stress may make you more tired, but hopefully not the treatment so that you can live life at your own pace. I hear you about the language issue. It's hard to do a mini freak out in your mind AND translate!

Well done! The first one is the hardest I think because everything is new and you don't know what to expect. The others will be easier now because you know how it works, how long it takes etc...and you know that you CAN get through each one.
Keep reinforcing the positive thoughts...you want to go to radiation, it's a good thing because it's going to get rid of the bad cells.

I love that he paid attention and used what you mentioned to get you some extra time off! 😉 Although something tells me you could just tell your husband you need time to return to your normal routines and he would be just fine with that. He sounds like a very supportive husband. Seriously though, you have been through a lot with the surgery and now these treatments. You take all the time you need.

At least it was for me. I didn't think I was going to be able to handle the mask being snapped down, and it's not great, but after that first minute and just remembering to breathe, it was tolerable. You guys gave me such positive tips. And a friend of mine was messaging me the night before and said the MOST powerful thing to me, that I actually wrote it down and have posted it on my computer monitor and a piece of paper that I take with me to radiation. It's: "Find that inner strength to breathe through this time. And remind yourself that it won't always feel this way."

I am a pretty tough cookie, but I get pretty emotional when I think/talk about DH and how he has just stepped up. We have been together for 23 years and it's been up and down for sure, might have almost left him a couple of times. But he has shown up for me and made sure that I have been cared for in every way. From hiring extra help for around the house to getting all the medicines and just making sure I have the best care no matter the cost. Since I haven't been able to work anymore, it's been really important to me to at least cook for my family and just feel productive. He tells me to rest all the time, but that can be counter-productive mentally, at least for me. But I know he means well. His family have also stepped up big time and have just been MY family when my mom and aunt couldn't be here. (They are coming this summer which I am SOOOOOOOOOO excited about) I am VERY, VERY, VERY lucky and blessed.

I'm sending you a big squishy hug from across the world. I had radiation for breast cancer, but it was not as stressful as what yours sounds like. I'm glad you got through the first treatment; I hope that some of your anxiety goes away now that the fear of the unknown is alleviated. Cancer shows us that we're stronger than we ever thought. You're doing great! 🥰

Yay! Glad you got through the first one. Now you know what to expect, so the next one probably won't cause quite as much worry. I love the story about the tech who talked to your dh about cooking. And also your dh sounds like a keeper.

I'm sending you a virtual high-five for getting through that first radiation session. Your bravery is truly inspiring! It's awesome that you had your trusty squishy horse and a killer playlist by your side – you've got the ultimate support team. Those initial moments can definitely feel like the suspense before a rollercoaster drop, but you handled it like a champ.
